I've heard people close to the main man refer to him as Robin Banks, we all get the pun I know. The contact at the gallery is Robin and Banksy is so methodical with everything he does. It wouldn't put it past me that he has a hand in who removes his street pieces. Of course he would never authentic them because it would damage his image but they still sell for a pretty penny. As long as he posts them on his website, people will know that they're authentic works. Just a thought... exactamundo
and when I suggested something similar I was attacked for even suggesting that Hirst who backed Sky Grimes financially to set up the scaffold firm to be able to remove Banksy's wall renderings and provide scaffold to artists to make art on walls in high places, (falling shopping trolley springs to mind). That maybe Hirst was behind this and also Hirst who promoted Banksy in a group show years ago too is a bit of a coincidence.
also I am certain that Banksy is not stupid yet he keeps making the same mistake and then moaning about how it's not right.
He paints something on a wall with stencils and then he tells the world he did it by posting it on his website thereby authenticating it and then wonder of wonders the thing gets removed from the wall and then he says it's not right alowng with his followers and what does he do about it to stop it going on.
He does the same thing with his next wall image and the next.
If he doesn't want it to be removed then don't post an image of it on the website and let the thing fade away and when it's too far gone or been vandalised away or removed then say by the way. Thats one of mine.
So why spray on a wall he doesn't own and then tell the world he did it and then the same guys buy the thing off the wall owner?

I genuinely believe banksy puts his work on the streets because he still wants to make a critical comment about society. And profiteering often flies in the fave of that. All in all it was a good thing for the museum to grab the picture quickly so that the likes of Grimes couldn't get his hands on it.
