Banksy Original Sketch?, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 18:40:03 GMT 1, I think if PC authenticated this one, it would open up a floodgate of fakes It would be good if someone bought this for what it is, as part of their collection, framed it and just enjoyed it, the backstory given seems enough IMO, just a nice thing to have being the original, or one of the original ideas on paper for the piece.
Dont see the big thing with all the fuss for a coa for these pieces, I think some, if not most people, want the coa from PC to add authenticity entirely for monetary profit not peace of mind.
Im standing back and awaiting the rocks...

Especially maybe after a few drinks and puffs. What's to stop people from making their own doodles and saying Banksy scribbled them? put together some provenance and argue it's legit:
I'm not saying the one on fleabay is fake - I believe the story. But think authenticating it might lead to trouble

Banksy Original Sketch?, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 18:49:10 GMT 1, Maybe later in a few years or decade someone will think of making a catalogue raisonné for Banksy art and become the world wide well known authenticator that is recognised by Sothebys in a similar way that Sothebys recognise Descharnes for Dali (thats a joke, but sadly true)
and list in the Banksy catalogue raisonne all the sketche sdrawings and other things which are prints.

I would buy it, I like a good laugh.

Banksy Original Sketch?, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 18:55:52 GMT 1, Banksy's body of work is SO large - probably more than any other artist on the planet. Whenever an old show thread is bumped - I always see multiple pieces I never knew existied. I'd imagine he's made hundreds, if not thousands, of sketches similar to this one. Don't know how anyone, including himself could authenticate them all

Theres no problems if PC or Banksy don't want to authenticate any originals.
Just that in decades to come when Banksy is no more.
The recognised authenticators will be the artists descendants or a comittee.

If they say it's authentic, it's good enough for Sothebys.
If they say it's not authentic, then no one will buy it.
No knowledge by artists descendants is required.

Though maybe Vermin can do one, they have such a good track record of authenticating Banksy works.

Banksy Original Sketch?, by Black Apple Art on Aug 22, 2014 20:36:01 GMT 1, Json, i've seen you write on here enough to make me think you have a decent view. This sketch is s**t come on??? Cheers mate, but it is not about if you like the sketch or if you don't like it. That is a matter of taste. But the sketch does show artistic talent. It is a quick sketch but the way lines are drawn, the way the "crisps and willies" ( Dr Plip) are being set up and the composition make me believe this has been drawn by someone who is an artist. (I haven't mentioned Banksy in any way) but if you put this sketch next to the known Banksy sketches they do look alike (in style). my 2¢ Really like this Banksy interview where he touches on that exact piece a bit. I also think it's likely the man is not exceptional at both stencils, painting and sculpture but probably seeks collab efforts with other experts in the latter areas for pieces. He admits in the interview "Because I was quite crap with a spray can, I started cutting out stencils instead." Just my opinion and he could still be a great painter and "crap" with a spray can.

True, that is what Inkie and Flex-one also said about Banksy. But Banksy did spraypaint some nice pieces with them, and they were not half bad. (Talking about his spray can handling) I think you are right about the collab/advice too
Good read btw!

Banksy Original Sketch?, by Lroy on Aug 22, 2014 22:17:06 GMT 1, If I can , I just would like to say that i love this drawing, that it's for sure from Banksy ( this girl gives all details and won't lie about It. She is sincere and she won't take any risk to put a fake one on line ( we have her identity ) . .. The only priblem is the price ?! To put it at 3K is stupid ! At one pound, this little piece would go high. I guess. Sometimes EBay can be interesting and not only a mercantile ( full of spammers, flippers and scammers ) website. I saw and learn a lot about great French art piece on it. It really could be interesting , culturally speaking. ( I don't care anyway of eBay most of the times and don't trust it - Many fakes were they close their eyes to get the fées - , but sometimes it's good to see things from another eye...
