Kaws Presenting The Past Print , by mad_eclectic on Sept 24, 2014 3:12:30 GMT 1, Back to the question of what is art then I was just wondering what motivates people to spend over 3K on a print?
Investment or the aesthetic.
To be honest, I guess people are different and do different things, and are in different phases of their lives. I dont need any specific motivation to spend 3K on a print, probably just as little as I need to spend too much money on a night out, or to buy that one more watch I just had to have etc..
People buy what they want to buy. For me it's just for fun. And thrilled that the only person I have to potentially justify these things to are myself. Always seems to go in my favor.

A fine mixture of both. Would only spend that type of money on an image I loved and would want on my walls for years. But by the same token it would also have to be an investment i've researched thoroughly and have a grasp on the artists past, and present, while making an educated guess on the future.

Kaws Presenting The Past Print , by Matt-lock on Sept 24, 2014 10:30:54 GMT 1, Is there anyone who actually wanted the print who hasn't yet received confirmation? Seems like it's been a pretty smooth process for those who wanted to spend the $$.
I think they have actually priced it pretty close to current market value on this one. Spongebobs are in same range and may seem like a bargain with the smaller editions but you're looking at 3 different color variations of the same image...total them up and you have the same edition as you have here.
It comes down to image and style preference IMO. Between this current offering to spongebob to glass smile you're looking at distinctly different images stylistically. I for one love the vibrant colors in this one and think it will look fantastic on a wall...clean deep white frame, keep it simple.

With the fast rising gold and other prices I guess some of these prints are looked at in the same way.
Is this Kaws release the retail gallery price ?

Agreed. Based on how the market works one could argue these were created to feed an army of "art investors" advised by those that do that sort of thing...and anyone else getting one has slipped past the velvet rope unnoticed. Yours will rise in value as those who play the game play the game.
But to suggest that KAWS does nothing but cartoon characters does expose one as uninformed, biased and again grumpy.

I have only seen art based on cartoon caracters and a skeleton.
So how about posting images of other stuff done by Kaws.
Or links to what else Kaws does.
Who knows, if I see it I might become a fan.

The actual buy codes came after Sept 21st in a second confirmation email. If you have one now then a print is reserved for you and you just need to make a payment by end of month. I think that is what he was offering up...to make the payment on someone else's behalf.

If anyone in the UK hasn't sent the money yet its probably too late now as it takes 4-6 working days to get to the States. I decided to plump for it after viewing a few framed examples online, now time to launch a few FS threads!

Well the extra 50 AP puts the edition at over a million bucks.
