The price of a Banksy signature., by Deleted on Sept 28, 2014 21:44:44 GMT 1, I'm starting to notice that unsigned pieces are rising in price, while the signed are also rising but less consistently, or are staying flat. I'm hoping this is because people are starting to buy based on image, rather than the concept of just having a signature; curious as to your thoughts.
Also curious what you all think the difference will be in twenty years re: signed vs. unsigned. Seems like such a big deal now, but they're all Banksys aren't they?
I feel like things like the stamp (on Golf Sale/Barcode) will come to play for unsigned, as will those prints that already have the Banksy logo like Queen Vic and HMV.

The price of a Banksy signature., by simonf on Sept 28, 2014 21:49:12 GMT 1, there was a time when a signed was about 5.5 times the price of an unsigned - but I think you are absolutely right I was just thinking that myself - but it does depend to a certain extent on the print a signed girl with balloon for example .... lol

The signature completes the print much more than it does in other prints.

Have we had signed going for less than unsigned…?
I'm guessing that there must be unsigned Girl with Balloon prints that have sold for more than say a signed colour Trolley Hunter in recent weeks?

The price of a Banksy signature., by simonf on Sept 28, 2014 21:56:38 GMT 1, yes i think the banksy stamp is almost a quasi signature in some ways so it probably increases value - over the years on ebay I have seen them listed as signed because they have a stamp.

Like the price differential between a signed vs. unsigned Queen Vic. Or a signed vs. unsigned Golf Sale. These seem to be changing in a way that reflects image preference over "Banksy brand preference."

The price of a Banksy signature., by motor on Sept 28, 2014 22:03:05 GMT 1, Interesting topic. Short term the unsigned have gained quite a bit recently. Few reasons but in the long term that's about it. The signed ones will be always more valuable and sought after (if affordability out of question). They are from much lower editions (150 vs 500/600 usually) and they are signed.

That's the only thing you're paying for when buying signed vs. unsigned).

I don't really get why any artist would not sign a print they release But would you really though? Like you'd take any signed Banksy over unsigned GWB, Love Rat, Sale Ends, etc.? yes, I would. Even though I'd prefer images such as Nola, GWB, LITA etc, I'd prefer a signed print over unsigned any day. IMO, having a signature is what makes it a complete, most sought after piece. I know Banksy is Banksy, but (almost) all of my other prints are signed - why should I hold him to a higher standard?
I have a few Banksy pieces that are more rare than his prints, but they aren't signed either, so considered less valuable. I'd take a signed poster over an unsigned print, too

Banksy didn't hand-pull his prints, so a signature is the only way you'd know Banksy actually had any part in creating the piece That then brings back to the question of what constitutes completing a piece, or what the signature in itself represents, and therefore what is its value? Is the print without a signature then worthless, or not a true Banksy?

My signed dont have it, coz I cant be arsed, nor do my unsigned
Not worth more than a back door print to anyone, unless they like to gamble.
Oh and if you think I am bragging about my signed and unsigned, you can stop that now, as i only have around 80 of them.
Above maybe a lie

Many Banksy prints could really be Ben Eine pieces since his skill is what made the prints. I'd be a different story if Banksy was making prints himself in his basement, but he's not.
Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE an unsigned Banksy. I'd be thrilled with any. BUT if I had a choice, I'd take signed any day

The price of a Banksy signature., by Momo on Sept 28, 2014 22:24:15 GMT 1, My opinion is that those with less means who have been long time fans and supporters of Urban art are realizing that very soon all Banksy's prints will be completely out of touch and now is a chance both to own one and probably make a little money over a period of about 2 years.(my opinion) So unsigned prints will go up untill they push signed up.
#I am not trying to hype up Banksy's as though A) I could or B) it would have any effect on the long term hyping. #I don't ow a Banksy so A)saying this is no benefit to me B)It in fact makes it more likely I will never own one haha.

The price of a Banksy signature., by Deleted on Sept 28, 2014 22:25:17 GMT 1, It's Banksy's anonymity that made me question the value of his signature during the first release back in 2002.
The £110 difference in value of signed/unsigned prints was questionable for just that reason… it could be signed by anyone, and if the artist revealed himself then the value of said print could be greatly diminished also.
As a result, does it matter who signs an official 'Pest Control Certified' Banksy release, as long as it's official?

Take a blank sheet of paper, write your signature on it 200 times, see how many of them match identically.

If you haven't heard of it, then it likely isn't a discussion worth merit (no sarcasm).
