Such a shame it got buffed so quickly, how very ephemeral! You'd have thought all those UKIP voters in Clacton would of liked this one!
I'd like to believe that the complainer wasn't racist and genuinely found it offensive, although I strongly suspect it has more to do with a certain local politicians dislike of being ridiculed for their racist opinions that are contaminating the community.
To then invite Banksy to go back and do another one! HaHa ..........AS IF!

Maybe he is doing a UK tour?

It would be interesting to see what the reaction of politically correct Clacton council is to this artwork.

One thing Banksy has achieved is a first for graffiti and unauthorised illegal street art is that the council said this art is "racist" cos they had one complaint so jumped at the chance to remove it.
So the Council removed illegal racist graffiti and instead of saying the maker of said graffiti will be prosecuted for making racist graffiti as others have been prosecuted.
They decide instead to invite him back to make more graffiti.
Now thats a first and hats off to Banksy for achieving that.

I can understand them buffing it as graffiti, but to do it because one person complained it was 'racist' says quite a lot about how councils operate. By all means say it was graffiti and was buffed because there is a no tolerance policy when it comes to this sort of thing. But don't hide behind the public and their stupidity. |
