They don't bother to check their information and assume 'they' are all the same because the unfamiliar names sound similar to the western ear... It's a very poor show.... thanks for vocalising exactly what i thought. geez. it made me well pisssed off. anyways, back to the point, one of my favourite artist is yue minjun. Go check him out. Go check out EXECUTION.
I'm in Beijing and visited a gallery where his prints (edition of 58) are selling for $20k USD....that's banksy hot!

It's by Cai Guo-Qiang and you should look at all the photos of the piece to get a sense of the perspective. Love it.

I would agree with the above- but it is also inflated by profit hunters looking for the next thing to blow up. the level of press and shows over the last few years is unprecedented.

The quality of the paintings arent always great but the prints that have been produced are fantastic, the small flaws and errors in the original painting (I hate seeing the grid in pencil behind the paint) have been replaced by even flat colours that look great. Really eye catching pieces. Dont get me wrong, great artist, some great works, lovely prints.
Hi, what do you think about Zhou Chunya and his green dogs?
Cheers.

In 2006 you could buy this type of work for $80-100,000 USD. So I guess my final point is, very good artists, paints a little too quick and too many sometimes, so be selective in what you choose. Andy

Visit SHANGHAI ๐จ๐ณ China Street Art, Galleries, Events, by lostinshanghai on Jan 5, 2008 16:06:54 GMT 1, No worries, the artist is a lovely guy and very well respected, but I think there are far too many Chinese dealers with vested interested in his works forcing his work stupidly high, to the point where real collectors don't buy and look elsewhere at new artists. The Chinese art market is full of dodgy dealings by the mainland dealers but very very few real collectors. My gallery is in China but 99% of my deals all go out of the country to real collectors. I leave the Chinese galleries to sell to other Chinese dealers forcing prices up, all trying to make money, not finding homes for paintings. Hope that makes sense. Andy

Along with Cai Guo-Qiang, they are just about the biggest names on the contemporary art scene. All of these guys have had work sell for millions. Ling Jian is also great. The people I work for picked this Ling Jian up (it's HUGE!!!) along with some Zhang Huan's at auction early last year, right before the Chinese Contemporary scene exploded:

One of my favourites is Xu Wei Qiang. He's from Yunnan province and he does some crazy paintings aswell as a lot of street work. Ill take some photos next time i see some. Street art is just kind of taking off here and its going to be huge.
Check out his website: www.xuweiqiang.com/index.asp
Ive just bought a pair of his new sculptures and im saving for a canvas. He's releasing a book on his style in a couple of months and will have a large exhibition shortly too.

Visit SHANGHAI ๐จ๐ณ China Street Art, Galleries, Events, by RedStarPress on Jul 1, 2008 19:00:18 GMT 1, Hi all,
Amin here. I've partnered with an experienced art collector and broker in Beijing, China to launch Red Star Press www.redstarpress.com/. Red Star Press is a Chinese based publisher for the emerging local urban/graffiti/street art scene. Our goal is to provide collectors worldwide with authentic and quality Chinese graffiti, and urban inspired art from established and upcoming artists. Most of our artists have had successful sales locally (gallery sales and auctions) and are looking to attract new collectors and interest abroad.
Due to the harsh penalties for vandalism, there's not a lot of graffiti writers willing to go public so it's been a challenge to win over their trust. We've spent almost a year working with local artists to convince them to let us represent them outside of China. We'll be updating the site over the next few days with some new graffiti artist profiles and their artwork.
But in the meantime, here are a few things available for purchase from our online store today. - Chinese Earthquake Charity Hand finished Print by Soos a Beijing Graffiti Artist. 100% of all proceeds will go to Mercy Corps to aid in the Chinese Earthquake relief efforts. You can purchase the print here: www.redstarpress.com/details-36-44.html We're hoping to have images of the hand finished prints in the next few days.
- "Itch 1" hand finished print by Ha Shiyou, a Beijing street inspired artist. You can purchase the print here: www.redstarpress.com/store-27-Ha_Shiyou.html
- And lastly an upcoming print by the venerable Zhang Qitian...one of China's most established and respected artists. His works can be seen in every major national museum in China. Go to the News section of our site to get a sneak peak. www.redstarpress.com/store-28-Zhang_Qitian.html
We also have a number of originals for sale here:www.redstarpress.com/index.php?module=Store . All artwork has been priced lower than what the artists have been commanding at auction. We're able to do this because we pass on most of the revenue to the artist.
As we are headquartered in Seattle, Washington we enforce western quality and security standards when it comes to purchasing artwork from our site. This includes using Google Checkout to safely process transactions. All prices include priority shipping, handling, and insurance worldwide.
We're pleased to offer Banksy.info forum members a discount of 10% for all artwork purchased before July 8th. Simply use the coupon code "VIP" (without quotes) during the Google Checkout process.
Thanks for the opportunity to make this announcement and please let me know if you have any questions.
Regards, Art Email: art@redstarpress.com URL: www.redstarpress.com
P.S. Thanks very much to Artasty and OMG Posters for the blog coverage. www.artasty.com/shows.php?entry=358&type=shows omgposters.com/2008/06/26/strength-in-unity-chinese-earthquake-benefit-art-print-by-soos/
