I'm liking the work a lot, but probably more because of where it's coming from and the social context it is talking about. Some of the pieces I really like the idea (I get) behind them, but... I'm not entirely sure about the style of imagery. Remember this is a totally subjective.
I will definately keep looking at the site and please keep us all updated and when new art and shows are coming up ;D

Which auction houses are you referring to? I can only find 2 auction records for Ha and one of those is an unsold. Both from an auction house in Sweden I believe. Can you give me a little of Ha's auction history?

Thanks for helping us do some research on our artists! I suspect that you Googled Ha's name and saw the ArtNet results correct? While ArtNet is a great resource, it does not provide a complete listing of completed auction results. For example, The Poly Group (a Chinese government owned conglomerate) runs a number of art auctions where the listings aren't shown on ArtNet. In fact, the English version of their site does not have the full results. There are also some smaller auction houses in China that do not have their results shown on ArtNet. Most importantly, our artists have direct control of their pricing and which pieces they want to sell. As I mentioned in my original post most of these artists have achieved success locally but have yet to find a good channel to the western art markets. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or comments.

Personally I prefer this smaller set anyway, especially "Change of wind". Loving the Cui Nan stuff too. There have been a couple of lovely pieces removed from the site, not sure if they were sold or not, but tastey, abstract work by Cui. Nice to see some different styles and have a strong dose of foreign culture/flavour in the messages and images themselves.

Did a bit of looking up on the net, I think the style there is more of a New York freehand thing, more emphasis on style and technique. I'm going to use Banksy's style. Simple picture, deeper meaning, placement is key. I certainly won't be ruining people's cars in a posh neighbourhood. I think the crummiest part of town would attract less heat.

i completely and utterly disagree here. I am singaporean and maybe you are too. But there are some pretty good work in Singapore. Just head down to Youth Park once in awhile and theres some execllent work up there.
Just check out Phunk Studios and see what they have done. amazing graphic street designers. And internationally reknown.
Google operation artcore, a singapore collective too.
Also, Im sick and tired of people telling me how harsh Singapore is on vandalism and then quoting the Michael Fay case.
Do some research - Michael Fay stole friggin traffic lights, splashed paint over cars, stealing fire extinguishers etc etc and did blatant vandalism. he wasnt doing murals or art. He was VANDALISING.
snowflake - if you want to do graf, head down to somerset youth park or the one in bedok. There are free writing walls there and its perfectly fine to do your art there. Theres also one at the Youth Centre behind Orchard Road. Thats where i do my graff when i can be bothered.

www.startfromzero.org is doing well in HK for instance.
So yeah, i really really hope and wish people will stop friggin thinking u will get your hands chopped off or something ridiculous for doing art in Singapore.

I will not paint in what seems (to me) like an open prison for artists. There is no point in doing a political or social commentary piece in a place where the public doesn't care about, where the intended audience will not see it. For example, a Banksy-esque piece on the ridiculous congestion charge system would lose its impact if it were not near the congestion charge zone / signs. Your youth park would not be a god place to site a work like this. This seems to be the point of the authorised graf zones. Put them where they do the least harm. Let them work on style and pray they forget art is a powerful tool for substance.

oh yes... on Singapore/Asia (where i'm from too) ... mr goz... i think snowflake has a point... work done at places "authorized" by the Authorities kinda looses one of the most important thing that makes street art so unique and interesting - the Ballsy-ness.

I also lived and worked in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia I don't disagree that there is some good street art in Singapore, my general (and probably too broad) comment is that Asian stencil art isn't as developed as the western stencil art scene. You don't really see the technical stencil pieces (a la Banksy) in most of Asia that you would in London, Paris, or US. I think it's an emerging area and I'm sure there will be some great stencil artists coming out of Asia in the next few months.

I also lived and worked in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia I don't disagree that there is some good street art in Singapore, my general (and probably too broad) comment is that Asian stencil art isn't as developed as the western stencil art scene. You don't really see the technical stencil pieces (a la Banksy) in most of Asia that you would in London, Paris, or US. I think it's an emerging area and I'm sure there will be some great stencil artists coming out of Asia in the next few months.

BIO:
A well recognized name in the Chinese contemporary art scene, some of Shen's art works are collected by some of China's leading museums and galleries. Shen refers to his experiences as a Chinese military officer to create approachable and recognizable art. His unparalleled commitment to quality is evidenced by his hand carving of wood boards and other materials used for his artwork.
Born in Jiangsu Nanjing, China in 1965. Graduated from Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School in 1984. Graduate of Nanjing Institute of Arts in 1991. 1991โ2007 Conscripted to Military Drama Troupe of Nanjing Military Area.
The following is a list of artwork on permanent exhibition:
*Hero series 12, oil painting, 200ร200cm China National Museum of Fine Arts
*Founding Ceremony, oil painting, 200ร700cm Shanghai No.1 Art Gallery
*Hero series 42, oil painting, 200ร200cm Singapore Art Retreat Museum
