+Like.  I enjoy the daily updates, showing various permutations of the black thing.  It evolves and mutates around changing backgrounds.  Quite interesting actually.  Great people in this thread of positive discussions and creative interpretations...really what an art forum should be about.

There is something about this one that is almost annoying me - like a niggling thing that makes me want to go back to it several times to just stare at it and worry myself about what it is that is obliterated. Managed to buy it too (during a lecture on 'work breakdown structures' on criminally slow broadband) so I can enjoy that niggling feeling ad infinitum. Thank you.

here we go, here's my luddite view..
The woman has many riches just for her represented by the food. Others can look in and see her riches but aren't able to communicate with her as one human to another.
You can't see her, she doesn't want to see you and the black thing tilts down so that all she needs to see is her wealth without needing to pay attention to anything in the outside world. The only thing she gives the remotest attention to is a cat who's allowed into the thing, but no other person. If you haven't got a seat at her table you are not relevant.

There you go, probably bollocks but it's what I see. It's what I like about Parasite s work, it gets me thinking in a way I can't with other pictures. If I went into a gallery it would mean nothing to me. If I saw the same picture with the black thing missing all id see is a woman at a table.

Nice pickup elwheel and fantastic interpretation dashboll.  Here's my take:  It's a scene of conspicuous opulence as the wealthy woman is surrounded by corporeal excess of food, drink, and wares. The black thing is the antithesis, it’s simple and pure, and it’s economical in black and white. The black thing intervenes upon the scene to contain, restrict, and obscure…a triumph against the bourgeois.

I think 3 is the most epic, its like a massive raised canopy that makes the whole picture seem 3 times bigger than it is.

6 is the best tho ! (imho) and really liking the portraits too.
