Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by Deleted on Dec 22, 2014 17:05:04 GMT 1, Why should you care about the Banksy 'market' so much? Isn't the fact his work has become so much about the market, that is half the trouble. It looks as though a lot of work goes into Bambi's stencils - I think there is no harm in trying to do something for yourself even if your ideas are not entirely original. To answer your first question I care as Banksy will always be the UK figurehead of a very significant art movement, and we are after all on the Banksy forum! Perhaps the work become "more about the market" simply because the artworks and shows during the past 15+ years have gradually become the thing of legend and many serious art establishments worldwide want to add Banksy works to their collections. ....... half the trouble with what exactly? Natural progression I would say. It just seems so very unimaginative to copy Banksys content, ideas and execution so blatantly yet so poorly. It appears a hell of a lot more work goes into the ridiculous Daily Mail style PR stories and ridiculous lies about who owns them. Shame really as I feel this is the very reason it will never be taken seriously even as 'stock' stencil work. I agree there is no harm in trying to do something for yourself,..... although It doesn't reflect well on British art in general if these ideas are purely selfish indulgences without any originality and are falsely flaunted all over the press in comparison to one of the UK's most original and successful artists. But Hey each to their own an all that.
on Bambi website it says this,
"All images produced by the artist Bambi are protected by the Copyright Agency. Any infringement of this copyright will be liable to prosecution." www.hydeimage.com/
I don't know if Bambi is a great artist who hand drew all of the images themself and then hand cut all of the stencils to create these images on canvas,
or if the images are just photocopies of media images or made from actual photos scanned scaled up or down and then turned into stencils by Bambi or an assistant and sprayed onto canvas which anybody and their dog can do.

Just that the art looks like photos made into stencils.
A step up from computer printing out images on paper in black and white with altered contrast settings and hand them out too as free art?
Flyers.
No hate for Bambi at all.

I mean I don't see it. Not saying it isn't true but I would be interested to see if anyone had proof. Heck look at whatson. We have documented proof he does what you just said.

No, thats why I posted above, are they hand drawn by Bambi then the stencils hand cut by Bambi and then hand sprayed by Bambi or are they just photos with altered contrast , which are printed out and made into stencils by assitants and sprayed ?
www.facebook.com/bambi.streetartist/photos/pb.458178747593991.-2207520000.1419272312./725148237563706/?type=3&theater
They look like flyers to me and stuff that most students do for gigs etc.
but on canvas which makes them art.
I have no problems with gonzo art and paste ups etc with some imagination.

Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by avec art on Dec 22, 2014 20:11:46 GMT 1, Ok well I'm not really familiar with anything Bambi has ever done before I saw this thread. From what I've seen of it I can't pretend to be overly inspired. It's just that it seems a little like it is open season on this person/artist. If you feel like it's not very good, that's alright and ok to say so, but to be so heavy handed. They'd probably like to improve themselves, and creating art is often a learning process, as with learning a musical instrument you sometimes like to imitate others who you admire. The greatest form of flattery we are told. Just because it is stencil art I don't see how this would effect the most well known home grown stencil artist or their market, and I think if it came to his attention they would take it in their stride. I dunno - just seems a bit harsh sometimes, lord of the flies style.

Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by Deleted on Dec 22, 2014 20:56:39 GMT 1, I was going by the rumours that Bambi is a well known celebrity who also went to art college St Martins or somewhere similar.
If that is the case, there seems to be more effort put into marketing than the art.
The stuff on walls is very nice and the stencils are neat with a bit of very social commentary.
I guess if the newspapers keep writing articles with the name Bambi often enough, then people will just accept it.
Thats the artworld these days.
Advertising.

Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by avec art on Dec 22, 2014 21:51:43 GMT 1, I do think making art is more difficult than it sometimes appears. But yeah, all the marketing, it seems like these days it's a big part of anything and so often comes before quality of content. I suppose there is a balance to be found somewhere.

Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by charliec2701 on Dec 23, 2014 23:58:38 GMT 1, Don't know why people get so heated about art or artists they don't like? If you don't like it get yourself together and jog on. No need to player hate. Bambi might have walked away with a decent days wage yesterday for all we know? And yet, thats wrong in some peoples eyes ?? 5 kids living in a high rise with a pay as you go gas meter.....Good luck to you .....
Who cares if its not original ? After all Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
Try informing Artnet of your thoughts as they have just listed Bambi as one of the most influential women in art Mind you Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian are in there too ................

Bambi π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Dec 24, 2014 9:22:51 GMT 1, Hate is a strong word and, for me at least, is reserved for people who are destroying people's lives rather than painting stencils on walls. Personally, I'm less bothered about the derivative style or vacuous subject matter as I am about the fact that Bambi appears to be metaphorically packaging up and selling on the scene that many of us love.
Graffiti and street art are important parts of who people are; it's a source of beauty and inspiration, it's the mischief we got up to with mates late at night and it's a frame through which we view the world. So I think it's natural that people don't want graffiti and street art to have the same fate as other subcultures like the punk and grunge scenes which have been partially killed off by watered-down and highly-marketed bands sucking up all the oxygen.
One of the appeals of graffiti and street art are that they're more of a democracy and meritocracy than other areas of life. So when someone usurps that with a paid for PR team and takes the focus away from writers and artists who have earnt their stripes it's bound to irk people.
I'm not suggesting for one minute that the rest of the scene is some kind of utopian fantasy but, for many, Bambi represents the more extreme example of this so I'm guessing that's why he or she has become the focus of people's dislike.
