incidentally, the caveman was auctioned a last week at faam miami, anyone know if it actually sold?

To your point murrke I do find myself looking at Banksy works with rose tinted glasses, expecting to like it but that is only due to the body of work but if it is not up to the standard that he himself has created the work is very open to criticism.

Just look at the tiny drawings done by JMB or Haring that look like practice or found doodles going for ridiculous prices. Why? because of the connection of the piece to a great artist. Same thing here with Banksy. Not nonsense at all. I can't afford a Warhol Marilyn, but I might afford an Electric Chair print... so that's what I'll buy... maybe.
It's the same for all artists. It's not a Banksy thing.

Buying a piece of a legacy. That's nonsense. A poor work of art is a poor work of art. Some banksy works have become the subject of just what morons critiques. What do we make of that? Sadly I won't be surprised if someone tries to accredite banksy for that and call it genius. Not nonsense at all. I can't afford a Warhol Marilyn, but I might afford an Electric Chair print... so that's what I'll buy... maybe. It's the same for all artists. It's not a Banksy thing. But I do get what you're saying... I think you have to really like an artist's work overall to want to buy something from them, just to have something! |
