Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Black Apple Art on Jan 29, 2015 6:10:35 GMT 1, If true they would have never let the only OG go for Β£40k. That wasn't steve's Well if there was shill bidding wouldn't matter who owned it. Driving up over all prices puts exponentially more money in a large collectors pocket. I think this is universes away from a Warhol / Hirst scandal.
BTW if anyone has not yet seen " The Great Contemporary Art Bubble" by the BBC I highly recommend it. If you can't find it give me a PM shout and I'll shoot you a link to the DL. Here's a teaser.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Simococo on Jan 29, 2015 6:46:15 GMT 1, It appears the 4 Soup Cans, Gold on Cream, ed.54, failed to sell with estimate of Β£3k - 5k. Even at Β£5k plus the premium would have still been great value.
It sold for 8.5k plus premium

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Matt on Jan 29, 2015 14:18:58 GMT 1, We are going to see a lot of crazy FS threads on here in the coming days !!!!
The prices for Flags and CND are just bonkers, but in the big scheme of Bond Street shenanigans it's just chump change for high rollers used to modern art auctions who thought they might have a bit of a laugh and have a bit of Banksy in the loo of their summer home.
Bethlehem trolleys looks an ok deal to me, rare, signed, special colors and nice backstory to one of his great prints.

In the time I've been monitoring auctions I find that people rarely pay a premium for a slightly different edition. I think the major issue with this sale is that most dealers (I know two sites that changed all their prints to POA yesterday!) are going to use this sale as a benchmark for standard prices while ignoring the special nature of the sale. That is, the large number of prints on offer garnered far more interest and bidders than usual, and that they came from Banksy's former manager. That extra bit of provenance comes at a premium. Just because Steve Lazarides' Trolleys sold for Β£10k doesn't make yours worth more than Β£6k. Of course, it's only a matter of time before the next large lot of prints is sold and we see if this was nothing more than a fluke.

Agree that low ed with slight changes does not necessarily mean a premium, but given the overall crazy prices here for some mostly unloved prints and big editions, I think it is one of the less crazy / more reasonable
As for galleries I'm sure they will now claim this is the price, but they also know that they won't get the Bonhams craze to carry over to every single buyer out there, so this should balance itself out slowly as some of the galleries will want to start moving prints out of their stock

A lot of the old salts on this forum have been long into the Banksy game and the whole 'mystique" thing is not so mysterious But for an average rich guy, and at this point who else can afford them, having the personal connection to Banksy makes it a bit more special than provenance from "Private Collector."

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Lroy on Jan 29, 2015 17:04:50 GMT 1, Reading this thread, clicking on the links and watching the photos make me depressed and give me a big burn out, with suicidal tendencies ... Very frustrated in fact. I would have loved this suitcase, this is there, a true Banksy, stickers, tenners, cd, the life ! and the jokes and the protest of the man ! I see that I have nothing and I prefer to close the log and return in my slippers to the fireside... without chemney off course Not online catalogue or for real?

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by SW20 on Jan 29, 2015 17:31:40 GMT 1, It's actually articles like the above that will support the increase in prices from the Bonhams sale.
Bonhams are bringing Banksy to a whole diff audience in general and generating good earnings. They also worked hard on the promotion for this one chasing up their database, past buyers etc and pushing the Banksy pieces.
They gained great results which I think will obviously affect the general market. A lot of galleries that did not have Banksy or street pieces are now inte rested in having a Banksy in their portfolio etc so can def see a rise in prices happening based on this.
Just to clarify I do own Banksy prints etc. So there is an interest or gain in higher prices however the above is just my opinion

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Winter on Jan 29, 2015 17:35:05 GMT 1, I'm curious as to what will happen to the prices of Banksy prints that weren't in the sale yesterday. Will the high prices in the auction have a knock-on effect across all his prints? I'm guessing only time will tell.
