Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Poster Bob on Feb 23, 2015 17:58:59 GMT 1, I'm surprised that there are only two Banksy prints in this auction. I thought that the recent results from Lazarides' sale would have coaxed out more prints from portfolios.

check the next sale and you'll see a tsunami of prints!

I thought most would be selling, but then read that the Laz auction was just his backlot or something (i.e. wanted to cash in on some stuff, but still has an absolute ton of prints/originals) so thinking you're right.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Matt on Feb 24, 2015 12:32:53 GMT 1, Holly Cow, i have been looking for the DFace A-Hole hand sprayed in indigo / blue for ages (I have the orange and the pink). I never got confirmation that it existed and here it is...
Now that I see it, it looks crap. The spraying is supposed to be D-dogs but here it just looks random camouflage...
The estimate seems crazy, D-Face market not strong at the moment IMO. Will be interesting to see what it fetches.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by preston on Feb 25, 2015 23:31:27 GMT 1, Some of those estimates are on the LOW side. Banksy's aside, the Parla's and small edition Faile's will go for much more.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by sommguy on Mar 2, 2015 20:32:55 GMT 1, That ladt bonhams sale was test of the print market. The market showed it was a lot stronger than they thought. And they thought or knew it was already strong. But the results were greater than anticipated. Wonder why there was only 1AP? And cross section of prints from applause to laugh now....
Wide selection of highly desireable images down to some prints hardly anybody wants. Smart idea to gauge the market and get s little more awareness for his work.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by trees on Mar 3, 2015 5:47:09 GMT 1, Thanks to the OP for posting this. May take a stab at some of those pieces. Anyone ever take part in one of these auctions? I will try to do the live bidding, but seems like it may take a while to get to the pieces I want. Was wondering if anyone had any good advice in getting the best chance at scoring. Thanks in advance.

The fees are crazy. 25% buyer premium, +20% VAT, shipping and 2-3% credit card fee. do you think it's best just to bid with my top number and see what happens, or bid live?

To be honest if you bid live, you might get caught up in the shuffle and end up over paying. Best bet would be to document the lot numbers that you are interested in and the max hammer price taking into account the extra fees...this way if you are live bidding you can take control of the urge by referencing your playbook :-)

I actually submit an absentee bid form with my max price (factoring in the buyer premium (25% on hammer typically), artistic resale (3%-7%, if any), taxes (depending on location), and shipping (this can be a big number >Β£500 for a small/medium framed piece for bespoke crating). I still end up watching the live bidding, but my die has been cast and whatever happens, happens. I don't let my emotions get caught up in the excitement of the bidding process and overpay for something.

I thought that the recent results from Lazarides' sale would have coaxed out more prints from portfolios. It's a prints and multiples auction, and has stuff by Durer and Rembrandt, Goya and other long dead scribblers. In fact something for everyone.

I trust myself even less; I put in a bid and don't watch the auction so I never get tempted to do something foolish.
The way people get carried away in auctions has actually been studied. It is said to be linked to the cognitive bias that the value you project on something you possess generally exceeds the value you project on the same thing if you do not possess it. - For example people are split into two groups. In one group each person is given an item (let's say a coffee mug) and asked for how much they would now part with it . The other group is then shown the item and asked how much they would pay to have it. The result is an obvious disconnect, and slowly people start meeting in the middle for an object they never though they would have / want - In auctions it has been shown that the more you keep on bidding, the less bidders there are against you, the closer you feel to actual ownership, hence the value of the object starts rising for you and you are keen to bid more...
Back to the auction, the Micallef and Parla bits are really quite nice !

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Deleted on Mar 4, 2015 17:49:30 GMT 1, Auction houses don' want too many Banksy's unless it's an auction of only Banksy stuff as they like other prints to get high bids too.
There are some nice prints in that sale.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Oski on Mar 4, 2015 18:40:04 GMT 1, Β£7k for a signed golf sale!!! ? - absolute bargain for someone. Always have to include all the other fees:
Buyer's Premium (25%) = Β£1,750 VAT (20% of BP) = Β£350 Artists Resale Rights (4%) = Β£280
This totals Β£9,380 and still doesn't include crate shipping (if necessary) of >Β£500 and 2% credit card fee (if applicable) of Β£188, so the total can be over Β£10K.
People tend to just focus on the hammer, and is part of the reason people overpay at auctions.

I still think that after all the fees are added, that is a steal for someone for a golf sale with the prices as they have been atm.
the parlas especially - someone was on to an absolute winner with those prices.
