agreed, many of us have pieces from this Genre and have paid prices such as 100-200 squid, then to see similar items sell with the big guns for thousands gives a sense of justification to your initial purchase at times when other people may have turned their noses up.

fun indeed....i will certainly smirk when i show people my $10,000 lenticular and $12000 sepia morons (from the last auction), etc etc etc
for insurance purposes, this is great!
i think what it boils down to is that the serious, wealthy art collector is not going to troll ebay/message boards...they know and trust bonhams...on a smaller scale, i have been happy to pay 10x's retail for a piece i really wanted for my collection...i dont frown upon bonhams auctions or the people buying up the lot.

That's what I'm thinking. There is probably going to be 100's of prints submitted to be sold at anothe auction. What are they going to do? Maybe be more selective and sell just special pieces only?

Why is it so hard to believe? Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Period. $95K is alot, but not relative to what is possible for people to spend on art.
You might not like his work, but a lot of people do. Remember, he had a pretty successful show in LA BEFORE his auction results and has been around longer than Banksy. He didn't just arrive out of nowhere. Both of his works did well and I'm happy for the guy.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by skanky on Feb 9, 2008 0:30:22 GMT 1, I am pleased for all the artists and people who done well from the auction. On the way to the auction I dropped in to the Opera Gallery on Bond St were I was looked up and down by some French geezer who treated me with contempt . The work in the auction was good but not representative of the best that we collect and it was still better than most of what they had to offer.

I hope the mainstream art market doesnt kill off being able to buy a new print and throw it on your wall without worrying about value or investment. Too late I know.
Hopefully the BIG money artists will make a good living out of it all.
