Says who? why do you think they were not near their value. Who dictates their value. Normally what ever a piece sells for at auction is the value.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by ed on Feb 13, 2008 19:13:28 GMT 1, even if unsigned aren't allowed in the auction, if recent prices in the auction houses are sustained, it'll put upward pressure on unsigned prints with decent prov....
I tried to put a couple of D*Face things in the next one and got a reply saying they had been inundated with D* stuff and were putting things in on a first come first serve basis. Made me think they don;t reallly know their stuff, cos otherwise they'd pick and choose the things they thought would get the highest price and therefore the highest cut for them....no?

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by leumasdarnley on Feb 13, 2008 19:17:53 GMT 1, Ebay is the best indicator to what the market will bear as these pieces are sold much more frequently there. These auction prices will not be fetched by the general public it will increase the value no doubt but not to the levels seen at the auction. IF you don't believe me just look at the prices on the bay. Buy it now prices are through the roof and I saw a bid on a Toxic Mary for 700 that was amazing . Also saw a couple of suspect Trolley auctions for 1900 which possibly shows an increase in Trolley value. So to say that the auction prices are true market value or in this case even close IMO is not correct.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by slowmo on Feb 13, 2008 19:22:25 GMT 1, I think the fact that Bonhams are being bombarded with a million prints to sell speaks volumes about which way prices will go. Anyone bought any tulips from Amsterdam lately?
Go with the ebay price.

No One bought an US thinking it was Signed. Thats the value of the US. The big spenders dont bother with e bay. The only big spenders on e bay are the little galleries. They pay ยฃ1500-ยฃ2000 and they have their big spending clients waiting to pay ยฃ4000-ยฃ8000 for the unsigned prints. And even more for the signed.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by RBK on Feb 13, 2008 20:04:56 GMT 1, Sure Bonhams will have the luxury of cherry-picking much higher quality works/artists if the rumor that everyone is trying to flog their collections is true.
Think we will see lots more originals and more (if not entirely) signed prints only.

What are you basing this on besides the Bonham's #'s ? I'm just curious honestly why someone would be "willing" to spend 2x+ the market value for anything no matter how much money they have.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by RBK on Feb 13, 2008 20:16:00 GMT 1, People pay more from galleries/auction houses for a plethora of reasons:
- strong provenance/authenticity credibility - some people like the glamor of saying they bought something from auction/gallery - they value their time more than trying to get a 'deal' somewhere else - they're rich and can throw what many would consider big money around easily

From WK:
It was not clearly pointed out in the catalogue they were unsigned (nor on the website) a mistake could easily have been made and you cannot now value unsigned prints at these prices

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by slowmo on Feb 13, 2008 20:56:40 GMT 1, This opens up a whole kettle of fish. Largely pre-banksy all prints were signed, not many artists before him I can think of who offered a two tier system. So in an auction house, is a signature really worth any more? Yes its been touched by the artist, but this is kind of new ground, I think?
Someone shoot me down in flames if I am wrong about print editions being run with a signed and non signed pricing gauge pre banksy?
