Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by sanssouci on Dec 20, 2017 21:06:25 GMT 1, Not even as a buyer, as I learned 2 weeks ago ... What happened? I tried to register at Bonhams and provided driving licence and passport ID. Furthermore I requested a bank guarantee from my housebank. I submitted all documents and Bonhams informed me, that they need a bank statement in order to verify my address. I told them, that my address is mentioned in the bank guarantee, which was issued only for them. I learned from Bonhams, that the bank guarantee including my address is not suitable for address verification. After that, I asked them to delete my account.
My bid was higher as the actual hammer price. So the vendor can say โThank you, Bonhamsโ

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Eton Groover on Dec 20, 2017 21:25:45 GMT 1, I never cease to be amazed at the moronic posts on this forum by people who don't understand the importance of firstly, the seasonality, and secondly, the auction house as you've corrcetly addressed. People just like to talk nonsense. Next thing you know, they'll say the auction result for a dry-mounted, foxed print is the new precedent; 50% lower than a result from just the week prior and that "prices are softening!" LOL, you could be right Next year will be the year of...........? But Its Christmas, its historical....... ย ..........and its Bonhams
I know. We are so thick. Nobody purchases anything in the run up to Christmas!! If seasonality is so important why are they holding auctions in December at all. If anyone knows the auction business itโs auxtion houses. I despair

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Dec 20, 2017 22:08:41 GMT 1, If seasonality is so important why are they holding auctions in December at all. If anyone knows the auction business itโs auxtion houses. I was mentored by people much wiser with experience that still dwarfs that of mine 20 years later. They were steadfast in their rules about the market many of which still hold to this day (some do not- like never buy unsigned prints- ha). But, they were adamant that if you consign to auction make certain you do so in the prime months at the prime houses only for maximum potential. I haven't consigned in maybe 7 years so that is moot but the converse is true too. Namely, their belief that the off season months were mostly filled with secondary dealers buying for inventory with muted results by comparison.
Times change and the auction houses have stuffed more sales than ever into the year. This year alone we have originals on offer at both London and Paris in late November and December which I don't recall from prior years. Traditionally, you had your prime sales being NY in May/November with London Feb/June and everything else was considered secondary sales (London Oct, NY March). September has always been a warm up month after the August break and nobody expected fireworks of any kind from the close of November NY until the London sales the following year. Long winded point being, color me a strong believer in the seasonality or simply old fashioned. I had absentee bids for the NY Nov. sales for works that I was drawn to and all were run over, most by about 3 times what I bid and one by more than 10x. I wasn't even in the ballpark. I've followed the sales closely for some time now and there is no denying in hindsight year after year that the fireworks are in the prime months and it's exceedingly rare by comparison for explosive action any other time of the year.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by artmonster on Dec 22, 2017 23:40:24 GMT 1, I tried to register at Bonhams and provided driving licence and passport ID.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by micro on Feb 17, 2018 15:59:54 GMT 1, Anyone with (very) deep pockets?
There's a Balloon Girl canvas 50x50cm coming up for auction at Bonhams Post War and Contemporary Art Auction on 7 March 2018. Signed in stencil on the turnover edge; numbered 17/25 on the stretcher; with Pest Control.
The estimate is 150-200k GBP which I think is way too conservative in the current market taking into account that signed GWRB prints go for more than 100K.

Yes absolutely, the 12x12 single ed25 sells at that level also so i would expect the 20x20 to hit 400, could go 500+. Depends on the night.

Keep in mind this is Bonhams which has historically achieved prices for originals that favor buyers over sellers for this artist. I'd speculate 350 gbp would be a bit more realistic as an upper ceiling for now at that venue but we'll know soon enough. Eye popping pricing either way.

Very true with bonhams, when i say 500+ is possible im inc fees, what someones willing to pay, things have moved on dramatically with iconic early stencils, a 30x30cm single sold for ยฃ290, i would expect a canvas with the same image 3x size to clear 400+ with fees although it is auction and bonhams so time will tell. It wouldnt surprise me at all if 500+ all in was paid.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by illicey on Feb 18, 2018 1:45:29 GMT 1, It is a nice example from the edition being atypical in size. That being said I don't have any real accuracy in knowing the exact numbers and sizes that run through that edition of 25. There has been talk of 30cm sq. but from the previous examples I have seen they are all 40 cm sq. and as such I was wondering whether anyone could confirm that the single edition of 25 did indeed have 30 cm examples? (I know the Dip is 30 by 30).
While we are there, could anyone confirm whether two different stencils were used though the single edition of 25 as the hair varies between some of the examples I have seen?
For what it is worth my prediction would be 250-350k. Giving myself a healthy spread and still likely to miss the board.

Long time sir, hope you're well. I have no idea on the variability of stencils within the edition. I've only seen 40 and 50 cm/sq versions of the single canvas edition 25. I thought only the diptych is 30 cm/sq and to be honest i have no idea how there would even be enough room to squeeze both the girl and the balloon on a single 30cm/sq canvas. If any exist I'd love to see as that balloon would be within her reach.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Feb 18, 2018 6:15:04 GMT 1, >>>. There has been talk of 30cm sq. but from the previous examples I have seen they are all 40 cm sq. and as such I was wondering whether anyone could confirm that the single edition of 25 did indeed have 30 cm examples? (I know the Dip is 30 by 30).<<< Long time sir, hope you're well.ย I have no idea on the variability of stencils within the edition.
Actually youre right, its the dytch canvases which are 30x30cm each, the single ed25 are split between the 2 sizes mentioned, that ive seen, although given the odd random size of some canvas within editions i guess anythings possible, 500+ is suddenly looking lofty

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by Balboa on Feb 18, 2018 15:12:33 GMT 1, Are these really trading on the secondary for more than 250K GBP? Certainly, the diptych is 300+, 400+ easily
Donโt say that. I turned the diptych down in 2005 when it was ยฃ8K
