Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Deleted on Dec 20, 2017 18:02:21 GMT 1, Your calculation on "bomb hugger" and "love rat" is wrong though and I personally don't think that you can take the price the seller gets from an auction as a reference for a private sale, which normally means much more hassle and risk for the seller. I also think that these results are quite low. Like it or not, results are results and they set the starting point for any future negotiation IMHO
Its mad how the market can be manipulated so easily
So if they had sold for double would that have been the start point for negotiations?

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by erik on Dec 20, 2017 18:06:37 GMT 1, The markets dwindling. Buyers investors and interior decorators are moving on to other things. The market for originals has been very strong lately, suggesting that serious collectors think otherwise.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by moron on Dec 20, 2017 18:13:57 GMT 1, Like it or not, results are results and they set the starting point for any future negotiation IMHO Its mad how the market can be manipulated so easily So if they had sold for double would that have been the start point for negotiations? It's easy to manipulate the market. Look at the Chinese modern art bubble a few years ago. I think another reason for the not optimal sales results is art Miami on recently which would have an effect on buyers deciding to buy something from there as an investment by someone affordable in the same price range as Banksy prints plus other sales in NY etc plus buyers don't have to visit and physically bid, even though i'm sure many find it more enjoyable than leaving bids online.
I think it's quite an enigma that hardcore Banksy fans appear to be the major buyers of his prints (well at least on this board) whereas in general art investors who look at markets tend to know very little about the actual artist.
I don't know if the unravellings step by step are making many buyers conclude that Banksy is not one person but could be something else entirely which could put some off investing at the moment.
The mega high prices that Banksy street art has been sold for as promoted by Sincura and other dealers could also be nothing more than flim flam and the pieces unsold or not actually sold for the high prices in reality.
It all looks good though from where i'm sitting. I buy high and sell low, i'll get the hang of this investing thing one day.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by artmonster on Dec 20, 2017 18:20:08 GMT 1, Yup relatively poor results all in all. Feel sorry for the vendors, duped by low estimates with the promise of it'll do well if they are entered at give away prices. I was tempted by one of the electric chairs but having bought something last week I had to think sensibly for once. And who in their right mind holds an auction the week before Christmas that's just mad!
Christmas pressie? I keep trying to convince the other half I AM worth it!!

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by Poster Bob on Dec 20, 2017 20:46:14 GMT 1, I never cease to be amazed at the moronic posts on this forum by people who don't understand the importance of firstly, the seasonality, and secondly, the auction house as you've corrcetly addressed. People just like to talk nonsense. Next thing you know, they'll say the auction result for a dry-mounted, foxed print is the new precedent; 50% lower than a result from just the week prior and that "prices are softening!"
The markets dwindling. Buyers investors and interior decorators are moving on to other things. LOL, you could be right Next year will be the year of...........? But Its Christmas, its historical....... Β ..........and its Bonhams

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by sanssouci on Dec 20, 2017 21:06:25 GMT 1, Not even as a buyer, as I learned 2 weeks ago ... What happened? I tried to register at Bonhams and provided driving licence and passport ID. Furthermore I requested a bank guarantee from my housebank. I submitted all documents and Bonhams informed me, that they need a bank statement in order to verify my address. I told them, that my address is mentioned in the bank guarantee, which was issued only for them. I learned from Bonhams, that the bank guarantee including my address is not suitable for address verification. After that, I asked them to delete my account.
My bid was higher as the actual hammer price. So the vendor can say βThank you, Bonhamsβ

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by lee3 on Dec 20, 2017 22:08:41 GMT 1, If seasonality is so important why are they holding auctions in December at all. If anyone knows the auction business itβs auxtion houses. I was mentored by people much wiser with experience that still dwarfs that of mine 20 years later. They were steadfast in their rules about the market many of which still hold to this day (some do not- like never buy unsigned prints- ha). But, they were adamant that if you consign to auction make certain you do so in the prime months at the prime houses only for maximum potential. I haven't consigned in maybe 7 years so that is moot but the converse is true too. Namely, their belief that the off season months were mostly filled with secondary dealers buying for inventory with muted results by comparison.
Times change and the auction houses have stuffed more sales than ever into the year. This year alone we have originals on offer at both London and Paris in late November and December which I don't recall from prior years. Traditionally, you had your prime sales being NY in May/November with London Feb/June and everything else was considered secondary sales (London Oct, NY March). September has always been a warm up month after the August break and nobody expected fireworks of any kind from the close of November NY until the London sales the following year. Long winded point being, color me a strong believer in the seasonality or simply old fashioned. I had absentee bids for the NY Nov. sales for works that I was drawn to and all were run over, most by about 3 times what I bid and one by more than 10x. I wasn't even in the ballpark. I've followed the sales closely for some time now and there is no denying in hindsight year after year that the fireworks are in the prime months and it's exceedingly rare by comparison for explosive action any other time of the year.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by micro on Feb 17, 2018 15:59:54 GMT 1, Anyone with (very) deep pockets?
There's a Balloon Girl canvas 50x50cm coming up for auction at Bonhams Post War and Contemporary Art Auction on 7 March 2018. Signed in stencil on the turnover edge; numbered 17/25 on the stretcher; with Pest Control.
The estimate is 150-200k GBP which I think is way too conservative in the current market taking into account that signed GWRB prints go for more than 100K.

Yes absolutely, the 12x12 single ed25 sells at that level also so i would expect the 20x20 to hit 400, could go 500+. Depends on the night.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by lee3 on Feb 17, 2018 23:14:44 GMT 1, Is that true? I still regret passing on a diptych that was in a group show at the Carmichael Gallery in 2008 at 75K$, was just too much for me at the time. Hind sight and such.... Depends on the night. 500 gbp sounds a bit much at this point but i could well be wrong. The most recent whisper on secondary that I heard was nearly $400 for a 40cm/16in sq ed 25 version. Keep in mind this is Bonhams which has historically achieved prices for originals that favor buyers over sellers for this artist. I'd speculate 350 gbp would be a bit more realistic as an upper ceiling for now at that venue but we'll know soon enough. Eye popping pricing either way.

Very true with bonhams, when i say 500+ is possible im inc fees, what someones willing to pay, things have moved on dramatically with iconic early stencils, a 30x30cm single sold for Β£290, i would expect a canvas with the same image 3x size to clear 400+ with fees although it is auction and bonhams so time will tell. It wouldnt surprise me at all if 500+ all in was paid.

Bonhams β’ Art Auctions β’ London π¬π§, by illicey on Feb 18, 2018 1:45:29 GMT 1, It is a nice example from the edition being atypical in size. That being said I don't have any real accuracy in knowing the exact numbers and sizes that run through that edition of 25. There has been talk of 30cm sq. but from the previous examples I have seen they are all 40 cm sq. and as such I was wondering whether anyone could confirm that the single edition of 25 did indeed have 30 cm examples? (I know the Dip is 30 by 30).
While we are there, could anyone confirm whether two different stencils were used though the single edition of 25 as the hair varies between some of the examples I have seen?
For what it is worth my prediction would be 250-350k. Giving myself a healthy spread and still likely to miss the board.
