Its easy to say they were a bargain without actually putting your money up. Just remember whats happening in the real world, they may look like a bargain compared to last week but could equally look expensive by the end of next week! ole banksy managed to drag in £117k though for the can canvas

Yeah, I think any of those surfboards would look great over a fireplace ;D
Or is that unsafe? flammable?

No matter how much people want to dismiss it, Nick Walker's art continues to sell exceedingly well at auction. His work is popular and easy on the eye, that might grate with some people but facts are facts.

that's been the average sale rate at most of the houses over the past week. Unfortunately, most have only been realizing about 50 to 75% of the low estimate in terms of cash but that's because everything with an agressive estimate has been passed over. We're going to have at least one more round of VERY ugly auction results (the NY sales) because many of the big ticket items were guranteed or estimated 2 months ago before the market broke. We can all be certain that the auction houses will stop permitting agressive estimates unless the seller is a fool and agrees to outrageous buy in fees. Similarly, they will stop guaranteeing the big ticket ($4m+) works because they just got hammered on the ones that didn't sell over the past week and probably stand to get hammered in 3 weeks in NY.
I will say this however; the quality of the work for sale at Sotheby's and Christie's evening and day sales in November is nothing short of astonishing. There is an Yves Klein at one of the houses that would have been worth over $30m in May but is anybody's guess what it does in 3 weeks. I even checked out the modern art catalogs this mornign and some of the Picasso's for sale will make you weap they are so good.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by beautifulcrime on Oct 23, 2008 22:35:01 GMT 1, In a room that was more focused on barely hushed chatter amongst some stiff collar n’ brogue types, and the occasional sound of drilling in another room, it was a dog pissing on your shoes kind of a night.
A number of major Banksy’s didn’t hit their guide and didn’t sell and nearly all the others, except a bellow par Tesco Value Tomato Soup canvas and a good Laugh Now original, didn’t reach the bottom end of the guide price.
Smaller Neate’s did well, large one’s hit guide. But this was a pretty mediocre list. Given Jose Parla’s show at Elms two weeks previous was a sellout this auction featured some reliably steady prints, that raised little excitement.
One Artist, Asha Zero had an original, acrylic on board with a guide of £600-800, which raised the odd gasp and quickly raised paddle as it hit £2400. Clearly people in the room were watching other people in the room to see if they knew something about Zero they didn’t. So there either is something about Zero that we don’t know in which case please tell us! or to make a dull night more exciting people played paddle tennis with the first ball to come along.
