Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by krazy on Oct 30, 2020 1:09:14 GMT 1, I've been closely following the art market for almost 20 years. I look at long and short term trends. A handful of auctions can tell as much of a story as 5 years of auctions. Too many people look at the art market in the same way as stocks (or even crypto because of the extreme highs), but it's dangerous to do that, as there's very very rarely a correlation between the two. Art has its own set of rules, patterns, etc. To understand it, you need to understand the minds and intent of old money, new money, young fans, old fans, celebrities, galleries, artists, flippers, and everyone in between, because they all have a part to play. If you want to talk market, letโs do it. I presume you donโt think Arsham is a long term hold (20-30 years +). When, exactly, do you think you would eject and dump your Arsham stock, and what signals will you look for to inform that decision? I donโt want other members unwittingly getting left holding some bags... Arsham is a mixed bag like KAWS.
He's working hard to have a "collector/hype" market for the lower cost items. Some of those will become iconic and continue to go up in value, and others will just languish when the hype dies down (although, the iconic pieces might keep them in demand... a rising tide, etc), but he also has extremely strong support for his "premium" one-off pieces and the occasional painting he's doing now. The fact that he's made the move into the institutional gallery space will mean that he's starting to be considered as a long term hold in the eyes of the collectors (generally, if he exhibits at a place like NGV in Australia, or some of the other large institutionals, they will acquire and hold a piece in their permanent collection.. which means a huge amount for the artist and the collectors).
A lot of people say that he doesn't deserve to have the status he has now, but he's found a niche, and he's very good at it. It's incredibly rare for a sculptor to break through into the collectors market, and he's managed to do it. How many other sculptors have done that? There's a lot of painters who make sculptures, but there's very few sculptors who do the occasional painting.
Just my 2 cents.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by irl1 on Nov 12, 2020 15:08:42 GMT 1, Daniel Arsham - Bronze Eroded Jupiter - 2020
"This sculpture is made of cast bronze which is hand-finished with a custom Tiffany Green patina. The cast Bronze Crystals have been individually polished. For my exhibition โParis, 3020โ earlier this year, I was granted access to use molds from a 200-year-old French molding atelier that holds molds of masterpieces for several of Europeโs major encyclopedic museums, including the Musรฉe du Louvre where the original โJupiter of Versailles" is part of the permanent collection. This Bronze work is based on an altered work I created out of that experience. Produced in a limited edition of 99, BRONZE ERODED JUPITER comes encased in a custom Arsham Studio wooden crate. Each edition comes complete with a pair of embroidered Arsham Studio art handling gloves that should be worn at all times when handling the work, and a metallic foiled certificate which I have signed and hand numbered."
In order to purchase the Edition, an email address will be announced a www.danielarsham.com/shop November 13 at 12pm ET.
Please send your Paypal email and preferred shipping address to this email. The portal will be open for one hour. Once they receive your details, you will be sent an invoice which you will have 15 minutes to fulfill. The limited Edition will be sold to the first 99 people to successfully submit payment.
Additional information:
You must have a Paypal account sent up to receive an invoice. You can pay on Paypal with a credit card, debit card, or bank account number.
When they send you an invoice, you will see it on your Paypal homepage on the left side that says "Needs Attention: Invoices to Pay"
Any questions prior to the sale should be directed to info@danielarsham.com

This looks like something youโd find in the Home & Kitchen section at Marshalls; pure kitsch, lightly damaged. All thatโs missing is the discounted price.
