How to win friends and influence the Banksy FORUM, by Deleted on Jan 13, 2015 1:01:02 GMT 1, I get it. But objectively, if the hyping had that kind of impact - I mean cruise-line art auction impact - wouldn't the actions fail to support the sales on the forum? I suspect you're right, there is probably an attempt at market manipulation from some but it's probably not keeping pace with the art market as a whole. If a bogus thread pops up, people seem to jump on it. If someone sells, quote them and it'll stay, right? Again - healthy discussion. Thanks.
plenty more prints get sold here than at auction, auctions are one instance one sale, with buyers who are generally not necessarily searching online, so can we correlate it? Sometimes, but it's iffy at best. For all the talk that auctions are linked to prices here, do we see it? Rarely....
Remember you only need a couple of other members to state so and so's good for it or correct in his estimation and it's all good. Also those of us who shout about these things are generally few and far between, there's plenty more protecting an investment than questioning it here. Look through the comments, look through the likes, you'll see the people who dislike me or are protecting the market...there's an awful lot keeping quiet too...it's interesting to say the least.
But hey I'm a troll causing trouble talking garbage

Please don't waste your time. I really don't care. Personally I think it's ridiculous what people will pay for these. You could pay a nice down payment on a house for the price
I'm all for prices going down on any artist - even if I own work of theirs. I love for artists to be able to make enough money to live, but we all know that most of the money trading hands doesn't end up in the pockets of the artist (not directly anyway)
(For the record, I think prices are still being manipulated more by POW than anyone)

How to win friends and influence the Banksy FORUM, by modelexit on Jan 13, 2015 1:27:17 GMT 1, it does seem there are times where one person is selling art work and a number of people are there to jump in and say "amazing deal " ' move fast ' 'great price ' etc. is this manipulation ? I'd put money on it being to increase their post count rather than any sinister plot. Glwts.... makes me cringe everytime I see it. Really? There are many ways to increase post count and when you have 2,000 who's really counting? I might be young and new here, but it's as plain as day (just do some reading of posts) and i understand how and why wouldn't people want to protect their investments within the forum. Selling below cartel value only means that the print will be flipped with a margin to scrape a healthy profit. At times it seems the love for Banksy and the aesthetic appreciation of his work is outweighed by the love of profit gained selling a Banksy. But what do i know i am only a one star noob....

How to win friends and influence the Banksy FORUM, by .dappy on Jan 13, 2015 1:35:17 GMT 1, ... this thread is no more than about supply and demand and the elasticity of it ... google it if you need to know what it means ...
... it is the basis of economics ... you will also find out how people try and influence/manipulate the elasticity ... think about OPEC (or the US) increase or decreasing the supply of oil ... buying up supply ... cartels ... car dealers buying their own cars to increase sales ... car hire companies getting a good deal on new cars from the manufacturers as they 're-supply' the 'tied dealers' used car market ... the list goes on ... etc ... etc

Those of you with good intentions please continue, those with greed and misinformation as an aim, there are people watching.
Apologies I'm sometimes rude and arrogant I'm certainly not perfect.
I do care a lot about this community and my words are always meant for its betterment however misguided on occasion.

You're sometimes sarcastic and you don't mince your words, but I can't recall you being malicious or anything. In fact, you always come across as intelligent, well-meaning and even quite funny. Plus, you're a trier. I think you have a strong moral compass and you'd like the world (and this forum) to be a better place. Can't fault you for that.

How to win friends and influence the Banksy FORUM, by Oski on Jan 13, 2015 2:58:42 GMT 1, Very timely topic as we are seeing essentially what is described right here in the Kunstrasen Appreciation Thread. Keep in mind that Kunstrasen (Phil) is by all accounts a great guy, and I do like his work. But it comes down to the handful of his collectors.
1. A group of people buy up very limited releases (editions of 20 canvases, etc.). 2. Measured chatter of a home grown talent. 3. Hoard more of the artist's work at very reasonable prices and control the market. 4. Start fanboy mode and fawn over artist in an appreciate thread and extend it to almost 5 pages in one day. 5. Other people start to wonder what they are missing out on. 6. Next release will be an edition of 100 print to be sold out almost immediately. 7. Early collectors pat each other on the back.

How to win friends and influence the Banksy FORUM, by Deleted on Jan 13, 2015 10:00:53 GMT 1, this is not new- during the legendary Croydon Bnsasky forger heist, both evil doers pumped the pieces and confirmed stuff like prices using a variety of sign ons & user IDs.Im pretty sure one of the pairs wife was also involved in this, but wasnt done( I may be wrong on this, but if you dont like it, sue me )
earlier comments about size of print market vs ability to corner it are somewhat erroneous- you dont have to take a majority stake/ any stake at all to move the perception of valuation in an illiquid & opaque market , you merely need to spend a bit of time on here ( not sure of anyone recalls the Hasbara poster of a couple of months ago in the middle east threads as an example of this kinda approach) - also having this forum as fully public visible & accessible has its downside as well as upside innit
Now that shilling is harder on ebay, fora like this are prime targets for pump n dumpers.
as an anecdotal finale, there are more city types on here that you may expect. alot more...
