Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by Deleted on Jan 23, 2015 18:07:11 GMT 1, being gay isn't just about sex. it's also about love, support and affection. you know, just like us "normals"
maybe a video of a loving gay couple should be attached to any COPE2 posts?

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by met on Jan 23, 2015 20:09:05 GMT 1, Cope 2 really isn't worth putting any thought into, but I'll do it anyway. Maybe I'm bored. Maybe I'm stupid. Or maybe it's a bit of both. First, he's an asshole. The cops caught him on a vandalism charge. Rather than pay his fine and spend a few days in jail, he decided to rat out other graffiti writers. He set up Utah & Ether, walking them right into a bust in the railyards if I remember right. They posted court documents and emails from him proving he was the rat. It takes a pretty s**tty person to turn your friends into the police rather than paying the price when you screwed up and got caught. Second, he's a homophobe. Where I grew up, it was perfectly acceptable to use that kind of language, along with racist language and everything else. I used it myself as a kid, not knowing any better. As an adult, I know it's wrong to use hate speech. If I really want to tell someone off, I'll just tell them to go f**k a goat. The goats aren't offended and I'm not disparaging an entire group of people just to inform one person that I don't particularly like him or her. As far as the rainbow Cope 2 goes, that was in response to galleries calling him out for his hate speech. Once it started costing him money, he thought he could pull the wool over people's eyes rather than changing his ways. For the very naive or uninformed, I suppose it worked. Third, he's not very talented. He keeps releasing the same gimmicky laser cut bubble letters on wood over and over. My seven-year-old nephew is far more creative than he's ever been. And a much nicer person. Lastly, I don't think the people who support him are particularly bright or care about other people. When you read their posts on Instagram, they're typically homophobic, racist, hateful people as well.
This largely sums up my own view.
Given your first and second points, I find it unfortunate when Cope2 receives public support from people I respect โ as we saw with the collaborations Martha Cooper and Shepard Fairey did with him in 2011 and 2013.
My focus is often on your third point, that Cope2 just isn't very talented. It's an insult to call yourself an artist when you're pretty much rehashing the same thing over a period of 35+ years and living off past glories. He might as well be embalmed, and wheeled out now and then for photo opportunities.
Although far from alone, the man is like some sad nostalgia act that willingly plays its one hit song each day, every day, for decades, until physical death finally catches up with a creative death that began in the eighties.
Cope2 is Eye of the Tiger or 99 Luftballons on endless repeat.

Thsts a good post and very true, wonder if he can actually paint any other letters, I heard he has a extreme rsI and brain condition , automatically his mind assumes he is painting his tag and just kicks in, but actually when he looks at the work his mind tricks him to believing he is pushing boundaries, I think Hirst has confirmed he suffers from the same brain deffect.

Cope2 ๐บ๐ธ New York Graffiti โข Fernando Carlo, by mandingo on Jan 23, 2015 20:54:31 GMT 1, I dont think he's anti gay just more used it as a derogatory term toward a non gay person . If he called a gay a faggot then that's homophobic . I'm sure all the Brits on here have used the term ' don't be gay ' before to a mate . Doesnt mean your homophobic . Either way he is a bit of a cock.

It's one thing if you randomly call someone gay as a term for stupid (not saying that's ok) but he was saying shit like why you getting fucked in your ass you faggot homo. That's kinda anti gay...

It's hard to defend the man, as I don't enjoy his character, but I will defend his art. He has done some beautiful pieces! And believe it or not he has his own original style.
You sound like an old fart comparing stencils to brushstrokes, talking about kids these days that's not art THIS is art. Haha I'm still laughing at the real artists with actual talent bit thanks for that!

You are entitled to your opinions.
I don't like cope as a person I've met him. And I have also heard stories from people who paint trains. I think he is a one trick pony. I've seen street pieces and his "gallery" stuff. Not impressed with either.
I have also met How and Nosm. I like them. Their art is on another level from someone like Cope in my opinion.
Cope gave an interview after the incident... Seems like someone who desperately wants to be loved. Here's a link... www.widewalls.ch/cope2-arrest-exclusive-statement-september-2015/
