Question about hanging a piece of art., by Sic on Jan 24, 2015 21:49:50 GMT 1, Recently purchased a new piece of Art from a gallery, it is a work painted on a sheet of stainless steel about 3ft tall and 18in wide. There are no holes or hangers attached and I would like to mount as is and not in a frame. When I asked the gallery how they had it displayed they mentioned a nail in an L shape with moleskin on the corners to protect. I would much more prefer a cleaner more professional look, does anyone have any suggestions?

Question about hanging a piece of art., by jusdeep on Jan 24, 2015 23:27:38 GMT 1, Obviously depends on the piece and it's weight but if tray framing, (even with a very small frame) isn't what you're looking for. Maybe using a split batten at the back would be an option. Like this:
Or possibly have a perspex box built to keep the artwork safe and clean.

Question about hanging a piece of art., by Deleted on Jan 25, 2015 0:05:23 GMT 1, You may be able to rig something using aluminum bars that holds the top and tail. They'd be somewhat noticeable depending how you do it but nothing close to a frame. And they'd be completely reversible.
try a professional photo printing shop, that backs onto aluminum, etc.

Question about hanging a piece of art., by Oski on Jan 25, 2015 1:08:09 GMT 1, I would suggest sitting it on top of a channeled metal wall shelf like the one in the link:
www.cb2.com/metal-aluminum-wall-shelf-24/s331363
Or or use just the wall portion (bottom piece of picture below) of French cleats to hold the top and bottom of your metal piece in place:

Question about hanging a piece of art., by Sic on Jan 25, 2015 1:50:52 GMT 1, Thanks everyone for the great advice. I ended up trying something like Oski advised. I found J channel aluminum mounts for unframed mirrors and cut them down to size. I then lined the inside of the channel with felt and slid the piece into place. I think now I will look into a flush mount perspex enclosure to cover it. Heres the finished product. Thanks everyone!
