Not that FR will ever be realistic about it but I personally don't have an issue with Sandra as an artist. I am not a fan of her work but its due to my taste not her personally. But for this subject with Chris Brown I think it is more a character issue than an art issue, and should we care about what painters do in there spare time.
Whats tough is when an artist gets to this level and we start to critique and ask questions about it or the progression, concept, etc. The artist gets caught in the crossfire between forum members trying to make a point at the expense of the artist at times, but that's a byproduct of success to a point. What also is a byproduct now is that the artist will be scrutinized for what they do in real life as well, as in this case with Chris Brown. This was why I posed the question directly to Sandra on Twitter about working with Chris Brown a convicted women beater. Those were her responses.
To me she is a bit naive in thinking its not a big deal, but that just illustrates to me her lack of awareness about the issue. A lack of understanding of her work and what women think about people like Chris Brown who have beaten women. As she really is casual about it, which is weird because her work is contrary to that position. This is something that we can debate about, does it matter what an artist does in their life if it contradicts the reason people buy their work.
Believe me Chris Brown is not the worse guy in the world, but it seems that anyone that cares about women's rights regardless of how famous a person was would have some standards. By standards I mean if your are Pro something, wouldn't you be pro that thing regardless of celebrity status. Maybe I am off or wrong on this, it just doesn't make sense and her tone seems so naive its odd.

I guess this would only make sense to someone that maybe actually cared about domestic violence or has been a victim to it. If I painted hours daily for women you better believe I would make a stance with them in real life when it mattered most. |
