Antony Micallef | Self | Lazarides Rathbone, by ABC on Feb 10, 2015 16:18:09 GMT 1, I first walked into Eyestorm Gallery nearly 10 years ago and immediately connected and loved Micallef's work, amazing talent for sure. For me though his work has been getting darker and darker and I'm getting lost in his transition/natural progression. I'm Interested to know if people are preferring this new body of work compared to, say HFUNG or Shibuya crossing etc.
What would you go for? Original HFUNG etc. or one of these new studies?
I will certainly go and see these for sure though.
Discuss.

Antony Micallef | Self | Lazarides Rathbone, by adewilliams on Feb 11, 2015 12:33:50 GMT 1, I preferred the early work, I simply don't get the new stuff. Why is Micallef described as dark? This work is about as dark as an episode of Eastenders (Eastenders is a British soap opera that is often described as gritty) gritty maybe but dark - I don't see it.
I've visited the Marlene Dumas exhibition at the tate and was moved massively, not by every piece but some of those portraits have real power which I don't see any of in these.

If ur in London in the nxt couple of weeks hit the Dran show for some honest to goodness paint on walls then head here and eat some big soapy art with your eyes.

But his painting is amazing, I missed out on buying two originals for £2500 and its my biggest art regret.

Agent Provocateur – the edible description is spot on.

Haven't seen Laz that busy in a long while
