Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by jayTown on Feb 6, 2015 1:43:14 GMT 1, Wish everyone would forget about "free prints" and "random sketches".
I waited in the cold for an hour tonight and when I got in there was two pieces of art to look at. That brought a massive smile to my face. We all get way to caught up with buying stuff sometimes feel like today was a great example of that.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Deleted on Feb 6, 2015 1:44:16 GMT 1, The frustrating thing is, POW's press release didn't even mention the cheese yes, they did. how did you miss it?
DRAN - PUBLIC EXECUTION OPENING NIGHT THURS 5TH FEB 7.30 - 10PM 35 Brewer Street, Soho, London W1 Opening tonight is the first solo show for five years by the French master draughtsman DRAN. It promises to be a 'live' masterclass in 'spontaneous creativity' happening in 'real time'. All of which actually means he hasn't done anything yet. Over the next three weeks Dran will be creating an art show from scratch in full public view in an empty shop in Soho. Upon completion it will close immediately.
You're invited to attend the private view and purchase a piece of wall on spec. Perhaps pick up a personalised sketch, or gaze admiringly at some empty walls.
The show runs until February 21st. Open Tuesday to Saturday 11am - 7pm. The public are invited to visit at any time, but may not always be welcome.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Sturban Has Saggy Tits on Feb 6, 2015 1:45:42 GMT 1, It was clear as day in the notice that there would be nothing. People went in the hope of profit and left disappointed. I thought it said he was gonna be there drawing stuff?
Nah, he was sat in the pub opposite with a pint watching people eat cheese! gotta love him;) I wish I was there, just to experience the confusion of it all, that must have been a piece of art in itself!

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Black Apple Art on Feb 6, 2015 1:48:22 GMT 1, Ermm as far as I can tell, this has nothing to do with "no money to be had." More like "no art to be seen."
Not sure what the over all goal was here but no art and no display schedule, then when pieces emerg, dropping bids on pieces in a box in hopes to be the lucky one who out bid everyone else.. Was this actually planned or are they making it up as they go?

Was this actually planned or are they making it up as they go? Knowing the temperament of Dran and some of the stories I have heard about how he currently feels about working in a gallery and so Forth, I think this would be the only possible way he would actually do a show. Under his own terms even if that means not painting much at all or on the wall, or whatever he woke up feeling he wanted to do without the pressure of selling or a Gallery expecting sales. This format gives him Freedom to do as he pleases and not as what the gallery, the collectors or his fans want from him.
I was recently told he would not be exhibiting or working in a gallery anytime soon so this was a surprise, but the format explains alot and allows him to freely express himself.
I am curious if he is painting works to hang in those squares or paint directly on the wall, I would guess it would be a combination of the two and those bidding on wallspace could actually be bidding on a work that will display within that square if they are so adventurous to do so.

Seriously?? I think this is great concept. How many people go back to an exhibition after the opening night? I know I dont. But I'll be going back to this every couple of days to check out how its progressed. Who knows if im lucky I'll catch him mid-paint.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Deleted on Feb 6, 2015 2:35:54 GMT 1, If you think this is a great concept, then I am really sorry - do not take personal offense to this - but if you think Dran f**king with you and wasting your time having your marvel at blank walls while he laughs at you eating cheese is a great concept, then I simply do not know what to say about the art world anymore. This may be it for me.
Regardless of what you think happened, you were drawn to a space for Dran art (or money for some apparently; don't know why the hell someone would buy a blank wall as advertised), and got a load of nothing. Not even nothing; you got nothing while the artist sat feet away and ate cheese and laughed at you looking at what he almost certainly knows is not creative at all.
Was it a nice night out for some? No doubt. Did Dran contribute to that night? Only in your imagination and anticipation. This was a big runaround, and now you're sublimating the experience.
You all have been f**ked in the ass by Dran. Yes, just for one night; he'll make it up to you in the coming weeks. He'll make up for it in more ways than you can imagine, because he is a GENIUS (zero sarcasm). But tonight? Cheese in the butthole. All in it.
This is exactly the mindless opinionless nonsense that made me rant in that other thread about that artist from that place with those things.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by kbfrombk on Feb 6, 2015 2:48:10 GMT 1, As far as I read there were empty walls promised and empty walls delivered.
Sounds like there were a few cheerful UAA guys who got to hang with each other (even a mikeydread sighting!?) which I would have to consider as nothing short of epic, regardless of the failure to secure all of Dran's upcoming works and the worldly fortune thereto attached.
Nothing much to be unhappy about; eat some cheese, talk to forumites about the empty frames and their bids, then head over to Borondoville: Boom.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Shoeless on Feb 6, 2015 3:22:52 GMT 1, All of this cheese talk and no mention of which types were available?! You people have no respect for dairy. Are we talking Cheddar, Havarti, Brie, Gouda.....I have so many questions and the lot of you going on about blank walls and conversation. Was there a queue at the cheese table? Which sold out first? What was the bread like? Did they offer proper pairings?
I like cheese.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by maxf on Feb 6, 2015 7:56:27 GMT 1, I'm not sure why people assume we just went for a freebie - personally I went to see Dran in action (as promised) and hopefully buy something (as kind of suggested) at market price - the opportunity to buy something by Dran at source doesn't come along very often.
The idea for the show is great - live painting and 3 weeks of evolution. However if the artist can't do 'something' on the opening night, it's a bit poor.
Proper fan here - I could show you Drans I queued in the snow for, and even have a post offering to swap a Banksy for a Dran - and I know which I'd tip for profit over the next few years (hint: it's not the French one).
Don't tar us all with the same brush. I couldn't care less about profiting from art and actually wish my favourite (owned) pieces were only worth the purchase price (or less). I don't want to wonder about whether I should be selling up to new buy a car/bathroom/wedding.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Chrisp on Feb 6, 2015 9:05:02 GMT 1, It's a shame most are saying everyone was there just to make a quick buck apart from themselves, probably not the case. I am sure some were and at short notice a lot of people were probably quite excited. Glad I didn't make the journey yesterday though, but I am sure good things are ahead.

Dran Show โข Public Execution, London 2015, by Lroy on Feb 6, 2015 9:16:49 GMT 1, To speak short and saying the true : Do I like Dran ? I don't know. Yes, I like it and he is a great and creative artist ( in an old vintage style characters ) , and the guy is nice... Anyway, It makes me remember more characters coming from a " BD " ( Decades ago, I was a collector of French figurative " comics " : we say in France, " Bande dessinรฉe " or BD - and we have great artists as Winshluss, etc... ) than street-art. As my friend George A. R. ( some here may know him ) who is a great illustrator too, and who is not enough wellknown....
I'd like to see - as this event anyway - more street views of Dran 's artworks ( he did walls, I know )... I think that to be managed by POW contributed to make him more famous...
But, I repeat, I like Dran and I wish him - I love this empty galery with the " frames " everywhere, it is a great exhibtion just for that ) . I just put another point of view on this debate... ( without to seem a killjoy, nor a bad tongue, at the contrary : art should have sometimes some constructive - and well written, in a good French style and without faults I mean, as this anybody understands, ahahah ;-)) - critics, If I could dare ... Did I wrote anything ?
And You all, do you like Dran ? Yes , of course ;-)
To speak short and saying the true : Do I like Dran ?
