My prediction is that the market for 'street art' like this will have bottomed out well before then. With the exception of a few artists that have been accepted outside of it.
I agree and provincial sale rooms often have ltd editions for very low prices that were sold previously by galleries for expensive prices.
Rareity counts a lot and some of todays artists and galleries who churn out ltd editions month by month sometimes by the same artist reminds me of when dali was old and frail and surrounded by people who persuaded him to produce a constant supply of ltd editions as an easy way of making money.
Dali had the decades of painting and the skill and a global name though.
Some of todays artists I get the feeling are milking it because they know nothing lasts forever.

I ask my assistants (all recent grads) and they all know Banksy and can describe his work. But they have no clue who Jasper Johns is. I think the market is gonna be strong for quite a while until another scene emerges.

It seems there is only decent money to be made from buying banksy's. That's why they are all selling so quick, and no supply either. I would never have thought the unsigned prints would go for thousands like they are now, it's crazy...

A handful of people in each culture become collectors. The point is, and always was, that graffiti and streetart which is now urban contemporary and post graffiti fine art, which is the largest genre of artists in history, will continue to grow and be collected among future generations because of main stream popularity such as banksy, etc. There are more and more young collectors each day, buying up all kinds of art genres, and millions of people watching the show, in hopes one day they'll be able to own something from these artists.
in a way I hope they will, but in another way I hope the works of the artists we collect today become a big part of art history and are attainable by the few that got in early, us.

Well anyway. Back to Sandra. I like her. Bought my print to hang on my wall. I wonder how I gonna frame my 'Tears' print when I get it. Floating in a black frame? Or maybe a white frame? Hope COA are fast to ship their prints ? Already sent the third on friday. The remaining will be shipped monday and tuesday.
