I wasn’t sure where to post this but hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction.

I recently sold a Robert Proch print to someone (framed) I sent it via DHL and they damaged it in transit, luckily I took out their insurance however they are asking for a receipt / independent valuation on my claim (£650 is what I sold it for). I can get a quote from my framers but stuck with a valuation on the print as it was so long ago I have no receipt.  I purchased it from Lazinc but can’t get through to them. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Artnet Database is showing about a dozen Proch works on record, not sure if any are yours but that could be a good place to check.

Is there a reason you cannot
provide the communication between you (the seller) and your buyer, along with the paymemt transaction information, as proof of value?

I have done this in the past with UPS, and the insured amount was paid out.

When I had to make a claim for a missing print with Parcel Force, I just had to show how much I sold it for (eBay invoice, etc)

What is your insurance ? Is it country specific or international insurance provider ?

I accidently damaged a HF canvas print when putting it up. So bummed about it, but shit happens. Thats when insurance comes to play.

The problem is that insurance company have no abikity to apraise the canvas print as they dont know the value on it. So they asked for me to get the apraisal.
I live in Finland and the market for pop / urban art scene is very small still, so basicly there are no entities to give a fair valuation on the current value of the piece and the current value of the damaged piece. Some galleries etc can give the latter value but not the first mentioned one.

The piece is from Super A and it was bought a few years ago and thus it has increased in value due to artist rising up in popularity.
This is why it would be essential that the party doing the apraisal can give an objective valuation on current value if the piece wasnt damaged.

Damage is a 15 cm long "cut" on the print surface as it hit a corner of a another piece hanging on my wall when it fell... extremely bad luck also regarding the incident...

Insurance company will pay for the apraisal eventually sonot looking for freebies.

I suggest you do two things, firstly get pricing for similar works on the market now, i.e. from galleries or auctions or direct from Super A on the website. Secondly have a qualified specialist i.e. a gallery or auction house write a quick letter to your insurance company stating the value if it were perfect. One or both of these routes will be sufficient information.
