JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Deleted on Apr 24, 2015 15:23:01 GMT 1, I think he should of stuck with tattooing. His website says his work is like Warhol meets Banksy which made me laugh. Would that make him Wanksy? He so is Wank(sy).
I've just read this thread and it's all horrible, so obviously formulaic and derivative - makes MBW seem like an art scholar - all it needs its some additional photoshop work to add a few skulls/butterflies and he'd have a full set of cliches. R2D2/Cambell's can? Really? REALLY?
Is this what we've become?
UmBongo.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by dodsi on Apr 24, 2015 15:34:32 GMT 1, The thing is, you don't have to like it - but I feel it is very accessible art that is very wall friendly. Some friends of mine like certain pieces I have, some have gone out and purchased pieces after seeing mine. Others really don't like it, I am not a fan of the Kate Middleton piece which we own but my wife loves it - it does have a very calming and serene look to it but it's really not for me. I agree that there is a lot of images that are really not to my taste but speaking to other fans of JJ there are plenty of people who really like these images.

Wanksy: Interpreting a Graffiti Virtuoso Wanksy is the unheralded genius behind some of the most iconic urban images of our time: the seminal "c*ck and balls," the timeless "Leroy loves Sarah," the devastating brevity of "sod," and countless other masterpieces.
Print in multiple variations with pre-sell and hand-finished versions (announced after regular versions sold to try to tap well twice) coming soon.

Edit: after posting noticed brilliant use of seminal!

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Deleted on Apr 24, 2015 19:19:46 GMT 1, yeah like cos I wuz a tattoo artist I is revelant in wot I do wen I take fotos ov famous people an i photoshop labels and logos and othher fotos i take ontop of em.
it's like art cos I is an artist an is really art.
It is what it is
Just like something an advertising agency would do once and move onto the next slick looking attention grabbing image.
Using famous peoples images or photos is what many do to create a pseudo celebrity status for themselves.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by dodsi on Apr 24, 2015 22:12:40 GMT 1, Who is or isn't buying his work for whatever reason is not particularly important really. Does everyone who owns a banksy print really buy it because they love the image portrayed or are there alternative motives like \that\ it is a Banksy or that it \is\ a good investment? Are all of the images by pure evil super complicated and could any if us drawn them with a box of crayola crayons and a sheet of heavy paper?
There is great variety in JJ's work from pop art to screen prints and digital images of many subject matters and not juysdt tattoo covered royals and celebrities.
Bedsides, said it already but I like the accessibility and subject matters of some of the images like star wars and all the super nerdy references all over them.
Its easy to say its easy and anyone could do the things he has done but the fact is they didn't in the same way he did and carries on to do.
If it turns out to be a flash in the pan I will care not as I have a select few images that are personal to me, far from cost a lot of money and I will enjoy them for years to come.

Thing is unlike mike giant, theres some serious art collectors buying this stuff next to the others. when i say serious, it does not mean they are right. What Serious collectors? Celebrities dont count as being serious unless its a celebrity who is a real collector which there are some exceptions. If real serious collectors are buying then why is he not represented by a top level gallery, why is he only represented mostly online, and why does he not have secondary sales in valid auction houses besides EBAY. If you going to make a statement give some facts with it.
As far as Mike Giant, he actually is collected seriously by people that might not star in movies but atcually know art, but unlike JJ adams Mike keeps his prices low for people not because he cant sell work but because he doesnt care about selling work for thousands and flooding the market. He actually draws and paints his paintings and should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as JJ adams. Mike is the real deal and is antihype, he hates the artworld and doesnt need to paint to make a living. Ill back Mike over 99% of what I see.

Why am i defending this! just do a bit of research for yourself* i did not create this thread as i like everything he does, infact i hate the way they come framed. its not a personal attack on me because you dont like it! It does not matter either way.
what do you class as a top level gallery? you dont see much of the art we like here in the tate, unless someones taken it in to show on their iphone.

It does not matter either way. *www.google.com what do you class as a top level gallery? you dont see much of the art we like here in the tate, unless someones taken it in to show on their iphone. So 1 Banksy collector sold a piece to buy an original, meaning if you own a banksy you consider him a serious collector. I guess that can be true but I am not sure I would say that, and I am not sure If I was a serious collector I would sell banksy for JJ adams looking at a long term investment, but if you like a painting who is anyone to tell you what to do or LIke. I am not making that argument.
I am not attacking you just giving my opinion on the matter. We all have our vices.
To me if someone is seriously collected in a pricepoint similar to this, I think you know the Galleries he should be in. For example as much as I am not a Fan of Sandra's work she is exhibiting at Johnathan Levine which gives her some credability for the moment as she moves into that realm. If JJ Adams is so revered and selling for these prices than some Gallery should have picked him up by now.

Of course not there are plenty of artists that are represented and make bad art, and many artists not represented making good art. But there aren't many artists selling out originals for 15K not represented regardless if the art is bad or good, to me its just one of many measuring sticks I look for when evaluating an artist. Each does and looks for things differently.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Mirus Gallery Poesia on Apr 25, 2015 0:33:57 GMT 1, I feel bad for even making a genuine argument against this after looking at his representation, I think that answered anything I wanted to know. Selling in tradeshows seems to be on par with the images I was just shocked by the 15K. What PR does though is amazing.
Also thanks for the paintings link Ploppi it gives some reference and think he he stayed the course with painting he could have broken through in the future, but these photoshop images dont sway me. I can appreciate the paintings even if there not my cup of tea.
Ill bow out of here now on this topic.

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Catman 74 on Apr 25, 2015 5:42:16 GMT 1, There are people willing to hang JJ Adams on their wall..So what?..I like some of his stuff not everything..There are galleries(and quite lots of them) who back him up and take his work and sell it..So what? He made a name for himself with or without our approval..Photoshop or non-photoshop people still buy his art and potentially they will still buy it if they like what they see..most likely there are not serious collectors but they just like the image and theme behind it..so there you go...Why would someone pay 10000 pounds for a dirty tissue where Andy Warhol painted his famous soup can??..Ohh..wait is Andy Warhol the King of Pop Art..but a dirty tissue???come on guys...Art comes in different forms..so..whether we like it or not there will be people out there with different taste and they will buy it anyway...even a photoshop image with s**tty frame if that makes them happy..oh yeah I forgot..it's called ART...

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by dodsi on Apr 25, 2015 7:09:23 GMT 1, JJ is represented by a publisher along with other artists and the publisher sells to a number of galleries nation wide. Not really as 'online' as the misinformed are trying to state. However, in 2015 it is not uncommon for these galleries (which are physical galleries) to take advantage of 'modern' technology and utilise e-commerce to increase revenue and exposure.
There was an issue last year with some traders buying and listing on eBay as first point of sale but the publisher has put effort into stopping this as it devalued the brand. The next thing on the list is to put measures in place to stop supply to 'flippers' as again this causes damage to the brand and is wholly unfair on those who miss out and it artificially inflates the market.
