Peter Kennard: Guardian Article , by ricobenfico on May 3, 2015 16:37:54 GMT 1, Kennard Phillips exhibited at Summerhall (Edinburgh) last year and just recently heard that they are coming back to Edinburgh this year at Stills Gallery. Looking forward to that!
31 Jul 2015 - 24 Oct 2015 Here Comes Everybody is an exhibition of work by kennardphillipps, the collaborative practice of London-based artists Peter Kennard and Cat Phillipps. It will consist of a large accumulation of photographic imagery, comprised of photomontage, digital prints and found newspapers, as well as a major new installation exploring ideas around image consumption, production and camera surveillance. Through the creation of a ‘cauldron’ of material, the artists will highlight what they describe as the ‘cause and effect’ of a range of global issues such as financial austerity, climate change, disease and war. New work for the exhibition has been co-commissioned by Stills and a/political, London.
kennardphillipps show their work in public spaces of all kinds ranging from the street, museums, galleries, newspapers, magazines and the internet. Here Comes Everybody will represent a continuation of their interest in making work that is a critical tool connected to international movements for social and political change:
"We don’t see the work as separate to social and political movements that are confronting established political and economic systems. We see it as part of those movements, the visual arm of protest."
kennardphillipps formed in 2003 in response to the invasion of Iraq. Their work has been included in the recent exhibitions: After Image, Galeria Civica, Trento, Italy, (2015); Caught in the Crossfire, Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry (2013-15) and LIVING WITH WAR: Artists on war and conflict, GoMA, Glasgow (2013).

Peter Kennard: Guardian Article , by ricobenfico on Jul 22, 2015 15:55:14 GMT 1, Update on the Stills Gallery Show, the artists are giving a talk on Fri 31st July. It seems to be 'SOLD OUT' but perhaps worth contacting the gallery directly to see if they can squeeze you in!
Artist Talk: kennardphillipps
FRIDAY, 31 JULY 2015 1PM
Free, Ticketed
kennardphillipps will talk about their works’ engagement with current social political issues through art and activism. Working with events as they happen rather than in retrospect.
They will talk and show images describing how they use different materials and processes in relation to where the work is going to be located, and how argument and debate is at the core of their practice.
There are also x2 free artist workshops being held:
War on War Room with kennardphillipps
SATURDAY, 8 AUGUST 2015 10.30 - 4.30PM
Suitable for ages 11+
The artists, kennardphillipps, are inviting members of the public to participate and make use of the War On War Room in the St James Shopping Centre during August 2015.
The aim of the War On War Room is to work with people of all ages and backgrounds to show that art can be used to express both personal and socio/political feelings and beliefs through the use of everyday materials. This is a D.I.Y workshop that doesn't require participants to have specific skills in art.
We will facilitate participants to express their concerns through visually connecting photographs and scanned material. There will be a large format digital printer to turn the work into poster size images, flatbed scanners to scan objects and personal material, digital cameras for portrait work and magazines to cut up.
The workshop will be a space where our relationship to the world can be explored through everyday materials, images and debate. The resulting work will be shown together both in the workshop and in local public spaces. All materials will be provided for you to make photomontage, construction, drawing and digital photography.
This is a free workshop but there are limited places so booking is required.
To book a place please call Stills on 0131 622 6200 or email engagement@stills.org.
A maximum of two places can be booked per person.
