Stik Sleeping Baby, by Pistol on Oct 3, 2015 12:00:15 GMT 1, In fairness I did get a reply but they said it was on a first come first served basis. I explained that I couldn't make it but made no difference. Such a shame I could have had a print I would love and that £1k could have helped their cause. I do a fair bit of work for charity through my art and genuinely thought it was a win win situation. It was so obvious what would happen with eBay. I have met Stik and he is a good guy. Would still be happy to do this if an a/p should appear from somewhere or someone generous wanted to sell theirs at cost and see more donated to the charity ;-)

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Deleted on Oct 3, 2015 12:02:02 GMT 1, What p**ses me off is that I contacted the charity direct and offered full price for the print plus £1000 on top for their charity in advance. I explained that these would end up on eBay but they wouldn't have it, they basically turned down a donation of £1k that could have helped the children and the print would have been framed and kept. Sad really :-( Poor form to flip a charity piece unless your going to donate the profit back to them. I attempted something similar, and got no response from the charity by offering a large premium to cost. I'm hoping Stik raises his prices £2k for the next charity release.
Suppose if lots of folks did this and the charity sold to them it wouldnt be fair on those who queued for a long time for the deserved right to buy a print, frame it and hang it as some of them wouldve lost out for sure and and there were plenty more of them than flippers.

I dont really get how this is a shame or a win win except for you at the expense of someone who spent a long time queuing. Details of the time, date and wherabouts of release where published well in advance, folks just had to get there.Easier said than done for most, non starter for me working and living north of aberdeen but such is life.
It wouldve been a shame for the 101st person in the queue....

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Deleted on Oct 3, 2015 12:22:45 GMT 1, Maybe next time they could do an online drop where you have to donate.
First 100 people who donate £1000 get the print First 5 people who donate £2000 get an ap
It would make a shed load for the named charity and most certainly put off any potential flippers.
Just an idea no idea if it could work

The market price is clearly more than £1500, so it would've been underpaying as well. By now, I'm sure Stik is fully aware of the value of his prints on the secondary market and there is no reason to suggest that he is uncomfortable with it.
The discussion on flipping charity prints has been done so many times on here. But just one more time, I don't recall anyone complaining post CYW release that it shouldn't be resold due to its charitable affiliation.

But it's not a win-win, as Stik had set the price and it would have been completely unfair to have started doing a secret auction, which would have meant fewer than 100 prints available. If anyone wants to pay more for the print, there will be in due course an auction of APs.

Only thing is that Stk seems to be quite carefully protecting his brand with small infrequent print releases.

That's what keeps his exclusivity and gains the cult following , although fair and raises more , the collector likes to collect limited editions .and gains the high prices his canvases command . Look what happened to dot dot , dolk and whatson when increased edition sizes and release more frequently , stagnates

End them all a minute apart. People who want 1 should get what they want. Unless of course, prices pushed way high. Just a thought. Cheers.

Stik Sleeping Baby, by tab1 on Oct 3, 2015 15:43:28 GMT 1, A lot of spite sometimes when missed out on a print drop when a sale so near after and a few members that are selling now are usually against selling after ;-)
Personally it doesn't matter if sold , as said its always going to happen , part what makes an artist so desirable
if the money's that high where else could you get £2500 profit in the space of a week ,!Banksy is traded for profit all the time .
Great pr for all the new people just finding about stik via foyles released book .
Free nhs donation print raises 50k then logging on to eBay and seeing how much the prints are selling for , looks like a 48hr queue next print release and mass fake tickets in the queue :-)
Still I think these will drop back in 3 months time ,whose patient enough? Xmas money needed ;-)

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Elvis to Pete on Oct 3, 2015 15:52:33 GMT 1, There was only one failing with the release...that was not putting out a statement that day or prior that "Stik" would be present at the release and after he would be signing open editions of "SleepingBaby" for all those that missed out on the edition or wanted to come along with a back catalouge of poster/books that he would happily sign for you.

The artist always stays true to original form and thoughts you can tell by his interviews and in person when you meet him but as any popular artists gains notoriety they have advisors / managers and pr people that sets a course for their market and ends up a business , they take % so in their interest
Even from the lower end artists working with galleries , galleries have a lot of say in edition sizes , where to market , type of clientele to sell to etc.
For a major publishing house to invest in a book their marketing team and pr department would have some sort of plans / career plans with the artists manager

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Ddog on Oct 3, 2015 18:17:26 GMT 1, Let's not get things twisted. With 100 prints he managed to raise £50,000 for the hospital!
That's an insane amount of money for such a short period of time. IMO anyone that queued deserves to do what the hell they want with it - it's their property.
Like a previous member wrote on here, people have had signed banksy's from release and don't bat an eyelid on them selling something for £20,30,40k + .
The charity looked after its own interest. Held a sale and raised £50,000. Anyone who spent the time queuing and spending their hard earned time and cash can do whatever they like with it. And to someone who wrote they should sell at cost and donate to charity... Pah! The hospital had absolutely no qualms about leaving us out in the cold and rain for 11+ hours waiting for the print.
As the saying goes, it is what it is.
Don't feel sorry for the hospital, they're more than happy with their raised funds from one print release

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Schrödinger's Chat on Oct 3, 2015 19:26:13 GMT 1, To each there own, I assume it would be +10% To 14% more on eBay to cover off fees.
This conversation/debate did make me think though, if at least 21 of the 100 prints sell for £3k on the secondary then the opportunists/flippers call them what you will, will have collectively made more money than the charity (not including sale of APs).
But ultimately good for Stik, great for the charity, the rest is a footnote.
