Sad I won't be able to see them in person, but I agree, the pdf is less than thrilling on first look.

It was definitely a crowded event and there were some nice pieces. Wasn't taken with the 'Oils' at all but some of the other pieces were nicely executed. One of the Neons was a bit 'fluffy' but on the whole a nice body of work.
The large 12+ piece canvas was impressive but who has the room for that ? - I'd have to sacrifice a window or two to be able to display it.

Harland Miller (thinking of your avatar) has been painting book covers for ever yet I still like every new witty release.
I can deal with artists doing what they do I guess

I had mixed feelings about the work. I don't know if its already been mentioned, the 'oils' were a print that had been stencilled over and so seemed just flat and lacked any real body - even a tatty old painting, dug from the back of the shelf of a charity shop has character and some feeling to it but these were too fresh and clinical. Other than wanting a uniform size and not being able to source the exact spec I can't imagine why he went down that route.
The other canvases with patterned and textured backgrounds were really nice, traditional Eine and not ground breaking but very well executed and I though a real nice composition of colours and layout gave them a nice twist. A glitter Indiana LOVE and a few other pieces were really well executed, I enjoyed it but wasn't the best show of the night

I'm not that fussed with an artist being in attendance at a preview, obviously it's nice if they are. Very little seemed sold, I saw three red sold dots by the end of the evening. Not surprising really as there were two large collages which would have been either very expensive or would have been sold as smaller meaningless jumbles of letters. |
