Kaws โข YSP Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2016, by met on Mar 14, 2016 14:07:42 GMT 1, burgerman - you are a LEGEND !! You have to PM me your address so I can reward such eccentricity - no, honestly, that is pure class and has put a massive smile on my face....( Lroy - the bar has been set for you ) [HASH]ForumHallOfFame I wouldn't reward him with anything after this stunt he pulled a few years back: urbanartassociation.com/thread/97790Hi Paul (Burgerman) remember when you ripped a load of us off? As a general rule, I'm against doxing. Forum members should have the right to choose how much personal information they reveal about themselves.
The exception I'd make is for fraudsters, con artists and other cheats.
In the above thread, it's pretty clear that Paul Wroe was responsible for setting up in 2012 the (now defunct) lonelyvillein.co.uk website. By doing so, he stole the Flickr username of Fragile with the specific intention of deceiving people into believing that knockoffs he was selling on the site were possibly official Banksy merchandise.
If burgerman is indeed Paul Wroe, then he rightly deserves to be outed.
----------
Ostracism has broader benefits as well. It serves to reinforce the parameters of acceptable behaviour within a culture or community. Here, we can cheerfully embrace certain forms of deviancy โ but not when it's based on misleading and ripping off fellow humans.
There will always be occasions when we're tempted to behave dishonestly. And this behaviour can easily be rationalised if bills need paying or mouths need feeding. I believe many individuals have a moral compass allowing them to resist. As for the others, the risk of incurring public scorn is usefully dissuasive; in most cases it's enough to curb any temptation to act like scum.

Kaws โข YSP Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2016, by Octopus UK on Mar 15, 2016 0:58:40 GMT 1, Luckily I live close to the YSP and cycle there a couple of times a year. Probably going to see the Kaws sculptures over Easter but I also notice that yesterday an exhibition of Eduardo Paolozzi prints opened www.ysp.co.uk/exhibitions/eduardo-paolozzi-2016-exhibition . Even more reason to head south!

I obviously wouldn't have made that statement had I known The reason I always quote is for context, so my posts can (to the extent possible) be read in a standalone manner, without having to refer back to separate posts elsewhere in a thread.
While appreciating the awkwardness of your position, in this instance I'm confident there isn't any confusion. No one should be under the impression you were aware of burgerman's real identity or history at the time you addressed him.
-----------
There's also an advantage in highlighting your post: If even a moderator can be misled without difficulty, that emphasises the importance for other members to exercise caution when dealing with each other. It's easy to get a false sense of security here. Jovial banter may give the impression we're in the company of trustworthy acquaintances โ when in reality they're often just anonymous strangers with familiar avatars.
[Who remembers that friendly chap from the Greater Toronto Area, Robert Dubeau / morrissey1, his supposed fundraising for charity, and his screwing over of Michael Jacob? Surely a random person on the internet must be honest if they (i) post on the forum and (ii) are Canadian and a Morrissey fan. How could anyone satisfying all of that criteria not be honest?]
Things are usually fine until money enters the equation and somebody decides to break a promise they made to another person.
The 'Not So Good Dealings With:' thread can be useful here as well, by helping to identify, inter alios, members whose word of honour means nothing the second it becomes financially inconvenient:

"This behind-the-scenes preview shows the installation of KAWS' ten-metre-tall sculpture SMALL LIE (2013) ahead of the opening of new Yorkshire Sculpture Park exhibition (6 February 2016โ12 June 2016). YSP presents the first UK museum exhibition by KAWS, the renowned American artist whose work has sparked global attention. The expansive Longside Gallery features commanding sculptures in bronze, fibreglass, aluminium and wood alongside large, bright canvases immaculately rendered in acrylic paint. The Parkโs landscape becomes home to six imposing sculptures, including a new six-metre-tall work, which carry KAWSโ idiosyncratic skull and crossbones features upon almost-recognisable characters."

Kaws โข YSP Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2016, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2016 14:03:28 GMT 1, I'm not sure how good is art that takes a well known cartoon caracter and puts X's where the eyes are or takes a Michelin man and puts another head on the body. Some people say Kaws is subverting advertising. Others say Kaws is just braning himself on the back of advertising and well known cartoon caracters. Others say kaws is a hypocrit.
www.voicesoftomorrow.org/us/kaws-reshaping-the-urban-landscape/ ""In the 1990s, KAWS received a skeleton key from a fellow artist that unlocked the bus shelters around the city. KAWS removed commercial advertisements from brands that he admired, painted his own iconography of Pop inspired characters on top of them, and then reinstalled the posters. We refer to these pieces as โsubversive,โ or we call them โinterventions,โ but the art that KAWS placed on top of the advertising graphics is in no way overtly political. It seems to beg the question of what the artist was really subverting, since most pieces appear to be celebratory of a designer.""
www.jeremyriad.com/blog/art/sculptures/remember-those-kaws-6-foot-under-companions/
""A couple days after I published my story, I got a very nice email from the museum politely requesting that I remove the photos that showed the KAWS Companions in coffins. The actual coffins had already been removed from the physical exhibition, and the museum was now following a daunting directive from the KAWS camp: rid the Internets of all evidence. I thought about it for a while, and I decided to comply. Hereโs why: I LOVE when museums exhibit toy art, and although I didnโt agree that it was KAWSโ business to police a collectorโs choice of display (let alone task a museum curator with wiping out photos from the Web), I didnโt want the museum to suffer for a couple of contraband jpegs.
Naturally, I did inquire as to WHY KAWS objected to the coffin displays, and Iโm not sure he provided the museum with a specific reason. What I got was along the lines of it being a violation of his proprietary rights because he hadnโt intended the art to be displayed in this way. I suppose itโs not impossible to get KAWSโ POV on this: KAWS coffins could be seen as suggesting that โKAWS is deadโ. But to anyone with eyeballs not covered by Xโs (and a calculator to add up values), itโs so clear that this wasnโt Varolโs intention.
But the question remains: Can an artist claim โproprietary rightsโ to how his/her editions are displayed (in perpetuity)? And if so, should he/she? And if so again, does it matter if in doing so, the affected artist comes across as something of a hypocrite?""

Kaws โข YSP Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2016, by Dellboyy on Mar 31, 2016 11:48:12 GMT 1, I popped over recently to catch the Kaws show... if anyone is planning to go make sure you leave yourself a full day, i always forget how long it takes to catch everything there!
I only live nearby though, so i'll get back to see the indoor section soon. Here are a couple of pics from the outdoor section.
Oh and don't forget to check out the Bill Viola exhibition too while you're there, pretty impressive! It's only on until the 10th April though.

I always shoot in raw though so i can bring out extra detail, so in this case it's the post processing in Lightroom that's made them look decent. For example these sculptures, being made of shiny black something, are stupidly hard to shoot straight out of camera against a white cloudy sky. You just can't expose for both easily.

So more on the side of contrast/brightness/colour balance etc.

Kaws โข YSP Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2016, by Dungle on Jun 4, 2016 21:56:19 GMT 1, Finally made it up to the show for my birthday this weekend.
What an amazing place. Kaws stuff is fantastic, but there is so much more to the place than the Kaws show. It's just annoying that it's a 7 hour round trip!!
Brilliant for the kids too. I won't bore you with more pictures, but here's the obligatory OMG artworld one!
It's on for one more week. If you have a chance to go make the effort too you will not be disappointed.
