Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by lamonster on Feb 19, 2021 2:47:52 GMT 1, I have an original Barry Mcgee Painting from the infamous Acme Gallery "Post No Bills" show that was located in San Francisco. The piece was painted with acrylic,1 shot oil paint, and varnish on a 2.5'w x 4'h (both panels) wall panel placed in a maple wood frame with UV protected plexi
The work is from a show that was curated by Amy Franceschini, Morgan Raimond and Lamont Gardner in 1995 and was the 1st and biggest graffiti art show in the city at the height of the mission movement, works were exhibited by so many amazing artist, it was also included in the hot rod show "Acme Kustom" in 96 & 97
The gallery was taken over by at least a thousand artist who tagged the bathrooms, toilets, old San Francisco bus artifacts, and the walls leading up to the second story, where the show continued and exhibited a more classical approach to where the future of graffiti was heading, with works by Margret Kilgallen, Soe, Bob Lickey, Sure King and so many more bad ass street artist.
It was pretty dope to watch Twist in flo and process, paint a mural on the 18' high walls and then go complete another room with his prolific skills and characters. One of the best parts for me was having his dad be a part of the show, with his years of paper napkin pen drawings and the hot rod big wheel his dad made for Barry when he was a little kid. it was a white with purple air brushed details and pin stripes, mini trike chopper, one of the most beautiful sculptures I'ld ever seen, they were the two major request I asked for the show.
The sad part of the story was after Barry had put in all of those days of hard work, plus helping other artist finish their installations, he wasn't even able to make it to the show, because before heading home to get a nap in and while in a delirious state, he got busted tagging on the building next door and got hauled off to jail.
As you can see I'm pretty sentimental about this piece and feel it's priceless, due to the legacy attached from those times. It's rare to see his earlier works like this offered and I believe these were his more pure and raw pieces that felt more connected to the streets vs. his current and more mature works.
This is the last historic piece of several I'm letting go of and the person who becomes the new owner will get the "Post No Bills" flyer and show poster that was designed by Amy Franceschini and I'll include the flyer and posters created for the Acme Kustom show designed by Alan Forbes and Frank Kozik too. If you have any questions feel free to message.
I'll post more pictures soon.

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by lamonster on Feb 19, 2021 10:17:17 GMT 1, You Are so right, She was a very wise woman and knew what she was in the middle of when it was happening. I saw how she was influenced by the street artist and how she collaged her style of graphics to speak her own language that told a story in a playful dreamy way. Her use of her 3d characters and type before it was used as much as it is now, loved the sites she created.
That was great, she's everywhere but no where, you hit it on the head, she made a lot of things happen. Post tools was her design studio and she created some gallery flyers I liked for luggage store, 4 walls and Acme, Her exhibitions, and museum shows she curated, and can't forget about future farmers, she was just miles ahead and am sure she's still keeping it moving in that way, I'm definitely an admitted fan boy

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by jB on Feb 19, 2021 15:50:56 GMT 1, I have a photo that was stitched together of the massive wall Twist did at the Yerba Buena and can say I'm lucky enough have one of those section pieces (with the cop) in my collection, believe from 1992. PM and and I'd be happy to share it.

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by lamonster on Feb 19, 2021 17:41:19 GMT 1, icecreamman, YES! please share bro, would love to see it. I had around 15 of those, but couldn't keep moving them around and had to let them go slowly over the years, but its good to see they've gotten around and have been resold.
I loved that whole city block he had done when the Yerba Bueana was under construction. My gallery was half a block away from the museum and I happened to drive by mid afternoon, when I noticed a few of the museum heads standing around a stack of panels they had just taken down and looked like they were contemplating what to do with them?
I told my friends in the car that if those panels were sitting around later, that I was going to go grab them and to my amazement after coming home from clubbing that night, the whole city block of panels was sitting there, I couldn't believe it.
So I Pulled up with my big ass 1976, light blue, pimped out continental, and started stacking the panels in the trunk. That car was so big the panels actually fit only sticking by a foot. We took the first round to my warehouse and went back for a second run with the plan of gathering them all. My partners in crime Kerry and my boy Armando were down, but I felt it would have been pretty selfish of me to take them all. If I was smart I would have went through them to collect the best pieces, but we weren't trying to get caught.
So because of me you have that piece, just kidding. Because Barry is so prolific, we all get to share in his work , he was part of the streets and helped move graffiti into the art world, validating street art as a true art form. In my opinion, I look at him and Margret, Amy as our generations Picasso, Frida and Rivera, in 20 to 30 years time there works will be highly sought after and they will be revered even more.
Again please post the images you have, would love to see

I like you framed that big ass piece. So you know what its like moving those things around, it got rough trying to hold to them after so many years and sold them to a gallery before I moved to Mexico 6 or 7 years ago.
you say you have more in your collection of his? if you don't mind please post.
Thanks man
