Donald Trump, by metin on Sept 14, 2016 16:41:22 GMT 1, Hi All,
I'm looking to do a small limited edition print run for my joker artwork and I'd like to get peoples opinions on whether they think I should go Giclรฉe or Screen?
I'm thinking a run of 25-50 (made up of a generic release and a few hand embellished), also if anyone has any good recommendations for decent printers to help make this happen that would be much appreciated?

Donald Trump, by gmidd on Sept 14, 2016 20:16:26 GMT 1, Screen printing is usually preferred, but that image would be a tough one to screen. Would 3nd up having a ton of colors to keep the look it has now and would be a b**ch to separate. Giclee would probably end up being cheaper and would be much easier to keep the look of the original. I know a lot of people on here hat on giclees, but if they're done well they can look great. Static Medium creates some of the best giclees I've seen and Graffiti Prints and Lazarides do a great job as well.

It's feels more personal IMO... I don't get this. More often than not, screen printing is done by a proper screen printer, not the artist. A lot of the time, the artist doesn't even stick around while they're being pulled. Not to make a sweeping generalization, but I bet you'd be shocked at how many prints you own that never touched the artist's hands before they signed them.

I bet many of us didn't expect the artists to pull the screens personally either. But something that is churned out with minimal to no human touch from a printer (in the form of giclee) just feels very cold to me. Hats off to the chap who just paid ยฃ910 for the katrin fridriks.... Okay at least that has one screen.

It depends on how the giclee is made. If it's based on an original work of art, plenty of work goes into creating a giclee. The original has to be photographed (which can be very tricky to get right) and the image then needs to be edited and then printed. All of which the artist is usually involved with in some way. Definitely not as easy as hitting print and walking away. If it's a giclee of a photograph or digital file then you are probably correct that there wasn't much artist involvement in the printing apart from proofing. Either way though, it's definitely not easy to create a quality giclee.
Again though, it really comes down to how you want the print to look and how much you want to spend. If you want it to look like the original image above, giclee is probably the way to go unless you want to shell out quite a bit for a lot of colors.

I probably didn't mean the preparation works that go on before the print is actually printed. I had meant to say the actual printing process lacks that physical human touch (unless touching the printing machine counts as one - that being said, I know there are screen printing machines around as well but I guess that may not be what the OP was thinking in the first place). The prep works to make a screen print is equally if not more tedious, I would say.

Donald Trump, by metin on Sept 15, 2016 9:44:16 GMT 1, Thanks for all the replies, it's really helped. I appreciate the love for screen but after talking with a printer I think it will be to expensive to go that route for this particular piece.
I'm now thinking about doing a small run of 20 prints with 5 hand embellished. If your interested in one drop me a PM.
I'll also be doing a giveaway for 1 of the hand embellished as a thank you so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Adding the hand finished element will be a good idea given the circumstances methinks.

Donald Trump, by RoboJ on Sept 15, 2016 10:08:22 GMT 1, Put it this way. I had some giclees made and as soon as they arrived they felt soul less and some how cheating. They are now used as give aways. I then went and looked into to getting a screen print produced but again I just feel really uncomfortable about placing an order and seeing the pieces finished.
My wife has brought me my own silk screen printing set up which I hope to get set up soon. The prints I create certainly won't have the quality of a professional screen printer but at least I feel good about making them. That's just how I feel.

Donald Trump, by Balboa on Sept 15, 2016 10:23:32 GMT 1, I'm not trying to be funny but are you certain there are 25-50 people who would pay money to have a picture of Trump in joker make-up on their wall? This is assuming you're not planning to give them all away
That's the kind of question I would ask myself before worrying about the print format.

That is quite an interesting point is this artist relevant or subject relevant or both?
As an example Banksy's Napalm? I understand it as a street piece it's very thought provoking but why anyone would want this as a print on their wall I'm not sure.
I get the feeling that if an unknown had created it people would say the same thing.
But that's just my opinion.

Donald Trump, by Poly Mindset on Sept 17, 2016 17:27:47 GMT 1, Yesterday's debacle when Trump admitted that Obama was in fact a US citizen has me outraged, and not for the reasons everyone else has stated. I am a veteran of the US Army. The men who spoke before Trump were all soldiers and different metal recipients. Men of honor who stood their ground and took the heat for this country, real Heroes. Forget about the media being played, I think the veterans got played. I for one am insulted as a veteran and as a citizen of this great country. After Trump gave his 32 sec. confirmation of Obama"s legal citizenship he tucked tail and ran like a big pussy. I will no longer refer to Trump by name but instead just as "The Big Pussy". I am not in support of "The Big Pussy" and it's not the first time. I have never been a big supporter of "The Big Pussy" and I don't think people of this country should support "The Big Pussy". If "The Big Pussy" were more humble and a little smaller I could forgive the short comings and it would make it easier to get behind. However, that is not how it is, "The Big Pussy" is and forever will be just that "The Big Pussy". I urge all Americans and people all over the world to just stay away from "The Big Pussy" and do not support "The Big Pussy" in any way, shape or form. "The Big Pussy" is no good. Thank you and goodnight.
