New Banksy - Calais, by kaos on Dec 12, 2015 11:43:34 GMT 1, Anyone planning to pop over to look at the art, perhaps consider taking some spare blankets, first aid kits or items for kids? (No guns or war-related stuff). Anyone know where exactly the 'Raft' is - going over next week and would love to see it. Any contributions of blankets/toys please pm me, I'll leaving London on 18th.

New Banksy - Calais, by Deleted on Dec 12, 2015 12:08:50 GMT 1, That's the 2nd time I've read about of "fit young men carrying iphones" as though it was a bad thing this week, ploppi. In pretty much exactly the same words (some of them had better electronics than ... as I remember it) . When did the generally-well-thought-of-idea of 'seeking a better life, getting up & getting out if you can etc' become being a 'dirty economic migrant'? When it didn't apply to someone wanting to move to the south of France, thats when. WTF? Have a heart Not forgetting all the expensive iphones that most of these fit young male migrants seem to have. I dunno, but would you leave your wife and children in a war zone and head for the UK alone rather than take your wife and children to the nearest safe country?

New Banksy - Calais, by Hairbland on Dec 12, 2015 14:19:42 GMT 1, Man is quite a force and never forget this is his forte and the more his popularity grows the more powerful and effective his messages. Bottom line is this is more brilliantly thought out and executed work, done absolutely for free and for all to admire, think and discuss as we are doing and millions of others will as well and isn't that the point. Keep in mind this is a man who is arguably the most powerful living art force today who is going against the "system" and hasn't released anything publically in over 5 years. Not saying he is not making good money but it's an infinitesimal fraction of what he could be doing and when compared to what he gives back, the art world has just never seen anything like this and is still struggling to digest it. Spot on. Those that don't get this know nothing of the history of art.

For the girl it was easy, there is only one " Poste de Secours" at La Digue. And the address was announced too. I don't know why some made a process of intent against me, all was in the newspaper and I wanted to help. And the location under the bridge known also, but who will go there to see it in the jungle ? Not a lot I guess and unfortunately. Not guilty. Too much attention maybe, to help.

New Banksy - Calais, by Deleted on Dec 12, 2015 18:14:24 GMT 1, So "Not all in the same boat" / "Le readeau de la Meduse piece" was tagged already (right picture).
Is it wrong for me to kinda like this take on the Banksy?
Banksy wanting to make the point across that the refugees are dying at see wishing they will be rescued by the (rich) western people. And the artist who defaced it changing the story to; 'Refugees screeming for money'. It does show both sides of the 'refugee discussion'.
My personal stand is the Banksy's message (if that is his message in the first place). But the defaced image and the original piece show two creative artists.
Yes i like it.?

A Finnish court on Friday jailed 23-year-old twin brothers from Iraq for four months pending trial on suspicions they were Islamic State militants who fatally shot 11 unarmed soldiers in Iraq in June 2014. The two were arrested Tuesday at a refugee center in the town of Forssa, 120 kilometers (75 miles) northwest of capital of Helsinki. New Banksy - Calais, by Lroy on Dec 12, 2015 20:47:02 GMT 1, Ok, All good, nothing wrong the Sky is safe..
From Reuthers :
LILLE, France (Reuters) - British graffiti artist Banksy's mural of late Apple founder Steve Jobs as a refugee on a wall in the Calais migrant camp and two other Banksy works in other parts of the city will be protected, local authorities said on Saturday.
The Banksy mural depicts a life-size Jobs carrying a shoulder bag and an early-model Apple computer on a wall at the entrance of the Calais camp, surrounded by immigrants' tents. The mural pictures are posted on Banksy's website.
Authorities in Calais, northern France, said they plan to shield the murals with glass or transparent plastic panels.
"We found out about the presence of this artwork on Friday and have decided to protect it, so it is not damaged," a Calais city spokeswoman said.
Calais mayor Natacha Bouchart told local newspaper Nord Littoral that the artwork is an opportunity for Calais.
"It is very good, and it has a message," she said.
Banksy, whose identity has never been confirmed, said in a rare statement to British media that Apple only exists because U.S. authorities allowed in a young man from Homs, Syria.

New Banksy - Calais, by My Name is Frank on Dec 13, 2015 1:04:59 GMT 1, That's the 2nd time I've read about of "fit young men carrying iphones" as though it was a bad thing this week, ploppi. WTF? Have a heart I dunno, but would you leave your wife and children in a war zone and head for the UK alone rather than take your wife and children to the nearest safe country?
You never fail! Ever stop to consider the young men are the children the husband and father sent away, while they stay behind?

There are many reasons why families split apart and there is rarely a simple explanation.

NAITSB is one of the best political Banksy pieces I've seen since his NOLA days. Very clever. But the dollar tags are a work of genius in my opinion. Obviously there are two sides to the debate and it seems that an aggrieved local has taken umbrage at Banksy's liberal views and reignited the refugee vs. economic migrant discussion.
Although personally I share Banksy's views on the refugee crisis, it would be shortsighted not to appreciate the thoughts of someone more affected by the recent changes in Calais.
The cynic in me wonders if Banksy might not have tagged his own piece, because it demonstrates his keen eye for political commentary.

New Banksy - Calais, by Deleted on Dec 14, 2015 8:51:57 GMT 1, Think these are strong with an important message - are people really hung up on the proportions of Steve Jobs head? Are they really discussing the proportions of the piece? Where is the thread discussing hands and feet on Banksy's pieces? Hell, why don't we discuss the title?
"Steve Jobs ,the son of a migrant from Syria"
Actually... Steve Jobs is the son of a man born in Syria who lived and studied in Libanon and eventually traveled to the VS on invitation from the CIA because his grandfather was a very wealthy man in Syria and owned a lot of ground filled with oil...
So let's nitpick about everything except the real message!
