Why do people like Stik?, by 11 on Jan 4, 2016 21:51:29 GMT 1, I think Banksy's PR team do a very good job of covering up exactly what they do and don't do in protecting the artist (or gang of 20-30 based on what you believe) and PR for the Big Issue shouldn't be confused with PR for the artist but nevertheless saucyjack - your interpretation is spot-on and clearly win the who has the most immovable opinions on everything

Banksy is sitting on an island somewhere smoking a joint in ยฃ50's laughing. Probably watching his family ride jet ski's I do so because the similarities between the two PR campaigns are very interesting. I won't clog this thread with my banter explaining this, perhaps I will start a new thread.
Again, I am not saying it is bad, I am saying it is happening.
As for getting the Guardians to get "hot" on me, that is just nonsense. I am speaking on topic, politely and that is not against any rules. The fact my opinions do not gel with the majority here is irrelevant. Use the Block feature if you don't want to read it, as 11 proposed earlier.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 5, 2016 3:29:56 GMT 1, I remember the front cover of that Big Issue well. It had a little Stik figure featured in the upper corner accompanied by words like, "This is the next Banksy." I also remember that issue featured a collaboration between Big Issue and M&C Saatchi. As we all know, M&C Saatchi is an enormous advertising agency.
I know the "official" story goes that Stik used the funds from the out of court settlement to pay for the costs associated with the 75,000 prints. I don't believe it. Fact is, the only people who know the truth are Stik, Big Issue, and (maybe) Saatchi.
Aside from Charles choking Nigella, I have no problems with it. Good on Stik for his success. I only want to point out that Stik does indeed have a very strong PR team.

Who really cares he hardly made his name for being a very 'real' street artist, just an east london pretender bandwagon that wouldn't look out of place in an ikea catalog.
Good luck to him.

Change "East London" to "Stokes Croft" and the second to last sentence reads like something Banksy would write on the back of one of his books.
IKEA catalogues must have improved since I last looked...

Hey mr communicator, do you question the personal tastes of the kids you teach? Tell them that the stuff they like is crap?
Why don't you just act your age and worry about the art you like not what everybody else likes. Pretty much every post from you since you've joined has been criticism looks like your only here to pick an argument and not actually contribute anything? Why don't you tell the rest of the forum your previous username let them know who they are dealing with
That's all

I think the real question is why do you feel the need to have a personal preference explained to you? that's been explained here many times already. why do you pose questions without reading the entire thread, thus needing it to be explained to you?
additionally,
"so many other artists" don't command (comparatively) high prices for basic work "so many other artists" don't have enormous fan bases like Stik

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Jan 5, 2016 14:24:49 GMT 1, Applies here, I think... "People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply youโre not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. f**k that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. Itโs yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially donโt owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, donโt even start asking for theirs. โ Banksy"

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Jan 5, 2016 14:28:23 GMT 1, Looks like a bit of both. It's good for publicity and advertising Stik and getting his name and art distributed via the Big Issue. I met a lot fo people who sell the Big Issue. Not all of them are homeless and not all are genuine.
Stiks prints were given to celebrities. Bit like Bambi

Why do people like Stik?, by 11 on Jan 5, 2016 14:39:20 GMT 1, When stik needs to hire a rig to paint, he sells an original. i think thats fair. no pr team or money goes anywhere apart from street work. anything else is made up bulls**t. Why hire a rig? Why not just paint standing on the ground or on a stepladder? This is getting ridiculous nowย
