Yeah I still smile when I'm passing it :-)

Eelus print contest - "Baby Shot Me Down", by thewral on Feb 23, 2016 12:12:13 GMT 1, Thanks for asking!!! Unfortunately at this time we're going to limit this one to current Eelus collectors. But, with that said, if this contest goes well then we'll definitely run another one on our next release with Eelus so may not be a bad time to begin picking up some Eelus prints so you can participate later!
No problem at all, understood. A very nice gesture to the forum. And it's awesome to see these frame jobs!
@snowy thanks you rule!

You're always going to get some haters but the true art fans will always appreciate something like this even if they can't enter. A great post and a great prize. Nice one. Ps that framing job on ATR is amazing. Oh the irony. Yours is up on eBay already

3 is a nice number to sell as cost as a competition rather than 17.

Eelus print contest - "Baby Shot Me Down", by Villain Dillon on Feb 23, 2016 18:20:42 GMT 1, I highly appreciate the outreach to bring Eelus fans out and show their collection. New fans are always wonderful, and I believe they form when an artist gets more exposure on top of creating inspiring works. This is a generous gesture to collectors who backed artists earlier in their careers.

With all due respect to the owner, who I hope is very happy, does this type of framing not alter the artwork, by changing the composition of the piece in a way unintended by the artist? This type of framing is shown on here from time to time, and I think the same thing each time. If an artist self frames a piece and does something like this, then clearly the frame is intended to form part of the artwork itself, but not when a framer does it. Personally I tend to be of the opinion that a frame should be to display the art, not to become part of it.

100% agree with you. You wouldn't add hand finishing touches to a print to make it more pleasing to the eye. I'm not saying it looks shit, but it totally changes what the artist set out to do.

Going by the upper portion of the rainbow puddle of water, don't we all agree the bottom should rightfully pick up the same form somewhat and should not 'spread' out as the mat does? This has become some unintended, unlicensed 'collaboration' between the framer and eelus - unless if the latter gave his nod of approval to it. But as you said, as long as owner is happy with the look. Personally I will never be caught dead doing something like this though.

While I agree with you, I think if I were the artist, I'd just be happy knowing it's framed and on someone's wall as opposed to flat filed, or worse, tubed.

I see this a lot with D*Face, and while it adds character it definitely takes away from the actual image as a whole. It would be different if the Artist did it, but not a 3rd party.

Eelus print contest - "Baby Shot Me Down", by bejwee77 on Feb 24, 2016 1:08:14 GMT 1, I'll try to stay out of the thicket of absolutist opinions that inevitably comes up on here, but will say that I think every choice a buyer makes in displaying their art - where they put it, what's next to it, the lighting, the matting, the frame - has an effect on the composition.
This choice may be more striking than most, but I'm happy with it.

I just had the same discussion with my son, who argued, when I showed him your framing, and discussed it with him, that placing a framed painting of Marx next to a framed painting of Jesus also changes the composition of each piece. I would still not frame a piece like this. But I am chuffed that you are happy with it.

Eelus print contest - "Baby Shot Me Down", by soupy on Feb 24, 2016 1:27:59 GMT 1, i only have conjuring, but have always loved eelus art. so much so that i decided to do my own spin on ATR and experiment with wood, epoxy resin, & paint. i used resin to create the depth & layers of the puddle.
i am by no means an artist but just took this on as a fun little challenge as eelus' work inspired me. it was the largest and most challenging art piece i've ever worked on. it didn't turn out perfect, but i learned a lot and may try something similar again.
i know it doesn't fit exactly in the contest rules, but hope that it counts as an entry.
