Nice trip is to the Bastika Gallery area which is the old part of Dubai not to big but a nice place to walk around near the museum etc. Majalis Gallery is quite big there but there are a few others in there as well. Al quoz as mentioned above is good. Nice area for a light lunch and also sort of Arabic dinner etc there are a load of galleries across the city including Opera but they are much the same as else where.
Check out the ones with Middle east art particularly the calligraphy type are which is pretty interesting
