Will Banksy ever use his real name?, by Daniel Silk on Apr 5, 2016 15:22:34 GMT 1, Something we are seeing more and more this last couple of years is Artists switching slowly to using their real names.
So many Artists in the scene have been using their "Street Names" in releasing prints, but it now seems to be the trend to start putting things like Silky aka Daniel Silk. So do you think Banksy will ever get to that point with hiding his real name is no longer needed?
Also do you think Some Artists might also have gone off their street names and wished they had just started out under their real name in the first place?

Will Banksy ever use his real name?, by d.r. perseus on Apr 5, 2016 15:53:24 GMT 1, On some level I think part of Banksy's product is his name and "anonymity." Having dealt with artists with aliases unknown to the public (and I haven't been in the buying game very long) which I know their real names, I would assume 100s (maybe more) of people know who he is and remain silent as they are part of a club. People have met him. People know the suspected individuals and link the two easily.
So I think no. If anything he would release stuff under another name (in the same vein of releasing what appears to be knock offs) as a statement on his name being a selling point, but I suspect the savvy nature of his fan base would know its him.

Case in point being the email received today from Stolen Space which references "UK artist Dean Stockton aka DFace" something that I personally have been noticing over the last year and a half or so in relation to him ....
Could it be that as Street Art embraces the mainstream, the whiff of illegality has become less pungent and it has become safer to reveal one's identity? .... I recall many many years ago punk rockers claiming that they used pseudonyms so they weren't caught out by the DSS for still signing on! Urban myth or not, it still sounded good.

Yes you are right , we all know per example Banksy 's " left hand " who has a great part in Banksy. And I know some others working for him during Botti per example. Sure, there is still RG ( back to the years ) who is one of the key ( he has some good friends by the past too ) We must all wait "' artworks by Banksy " , after J.Brooks validation and Official website of course ( remember when the spy phone cabin had took time to be validate ). And the official unofficial mates that we know. Sure and not sure ( I am not one of those ) that rich men and friends as Hirst and co should help ... Taunton Rat's affair ( with JPS ) has shown us some defaults that happened sometimes in a carrier. It's funny, but with the new side offered by Didmaland and contemporary artists, we could think that Banksy should soon show his " real face " ( lol ) , but who will play the game ? Banky in the street-art world is enormous now, a really big affair, with big installations, etc... ! I wonder who has all ( or most all the rights or the money , dispatched a lot for charity actions ). Funny too, everybody or mostly Parisians know Invade face, adress an real name. Will he keep his mask on TV a long time ? I don't think so. Imagine him wearing a mask at 70 years , it would be ridiculous, as old Marvel super Heroes and retreated :-) secrecy st a certain age is ridiculous , as these big business men, owners of firms or not, smoking cigar and sailing fishes on their yatch ... Royston has spoken . Hugh!

Will Banksy ever use his real name?, by Deleted on Apr 5, 2016 17:40:46 GMT 1, How do you know he isn't releasing work under another name already :-)
I think with the likes of Banksy and other street artists you wouldn't use your real name if you are illegally painting walls. He could probably still be arrested for past misdemeanours. For others they might not want the celebrity, they just enjoy creating art or like the money. Could also be to try and avoid copyright issues or mr taxman. Lastly there are those that thought it was the in thing to do being a trendy urban artist. Or the forum name came first and stuck.

Kind of like Daft Punk. They've watched themselves get awards from the audience and sent up friends as them since no one knows who they really are (I mean some people do, but the vast, vast majority do not). It's possible Banksy has greeted you at an event as someone else, or even served you drinks just to see what people think of his stuff while not being noticed. Anonymity allows for those kind of "secret shopper" opportunities that named artists and individuals can't have since they likely get brown-nosed all the time.

A few friends played champagne pong with them a year or so ago, helmets off. They're not as secretive as they once were.

I have known personally Daft Punk and I saw them for thier first gigs ( if you want to see them or know their names, not obliged to ask, google will help, as for Invader per example : where is the mystery if we go back at the first years ), these two wankers from Versailles, did not creat anything, but only followed English wave and music. The French Touch, Lol , let's me laugh ! Hundred were doing that before them. The have the chance to be followedf by Les Inrockuptibles and to have a good agent ! Air are better ( just my opinion ) , no comparison anyway. Sorry to disgress.

"Super heroes as well as super villains exist in this world we live in today, although itโs not always clear who is who. About two decades ago in a small community in the city of Los Angeles called Silver Lake, a tiny gallery / bookstore was having an art show of a few thrift store paintings hung on display with army choppers and primates stenciled over them. I thought they were hilarious, but I sure as hell wasnโt going to pay the asking price of $200; I would rather just make my own (and I did). Time went on, none of the pieces had sold and the shop owner seemed a little desperate, so I used my Korean negotiation skills to talk him down to $50; although, even at $50 I felt a little cheated buying stencil art, but back then, as a starving artist myself, I was always open to supporting other starving artists so I felt good about that part. I asked who the artist was, and he said it was a fellow from across the pond in the UK who goes by the name Bank-Ski, and he was across the street. I said oh cool and went across the street and met a delightful young dark skinned chap with a slight Arabic accent, that was excited about his first art show in America, but also didnโt care much that he hadnโt sold anything and cared more about changing the environment and waking people the fuck up"
