Will Banksy ever use his real name?, by uniquinn on Jan 25, 2022 6:54:40 GMT 1, Something we are seeing more and more this last couple of years is Artists switching slowly to using their real names. So many Artists in the scene have been using their "Street Names" in releasing prints, but it now seems to be the trend to start putting things like Silky aka Daniel Silk. So do you think Banksy will ever get to that point with hiding his real name is no longer needed? Also do you think Some Artists might also have gone off their street names and wished they had just started out under their real name in the first place?

The recent copyright cases don’t seem to be going well for him and the GDP plan didn’t appear to make any difference to that situation.
That would be so sad. Having to reveal your name just to win the lawsuits from some leechers...
I'm also very surprised so many people on this board are still so clueless about what kind of person he is and what he stands for .

And, yes, at first, I even liked the message - Even "walled off" was, I thought, a great message.
But from clever, witty, punki, and contestatory at first, it went down the sloppery slope to downright moralizing to just woke in recent years.
I already have Hollywood moralizing me 24/7, I don't need another preacher.
So I'm not interested in knowing who Banksy is at all, because I will separate the art - which I like, on graphic value, and sometimes even on message value, to the man - who seems to be another moralizing **** who seems compelled to telling me what to think. I don't need that, I already have a million actors and singers doing so.

Or some created works for Banksy, the brand. Even some stencils, are differents. What to know is who decides if it's a Banksy or not : RG, a committee, PC, another people ? Anyway Banksy is fantastic, that 's all I know !

I voted yes because it is probably inevitable, but it is risky as society edges towards fascism, he could become a scapegoat against all our misdeeds. It's easy to be blindsided into thinking that Banksy is an accepted artist now but for every lover of him there's at least 3 karens waiting to vent their misery and pretend like they give a shit about the walls he "ruined".
Being in prison will undoubtedly raise the price of his work so for the already affluent enough to afford a banksy they'll be happy, but do they care about the man/team?
Like that batman film portrayed, a symbol is what we need, not another suit.

I think the plausible deniability and security that his veiled identity provides is worth more than the money he would collect. He's middle-aged at this point. He's never come across as someone who needs his back patted and a slew of attaboys.
The only caveat is the aid he could provide to others with the influx of financial resources.

Can only assume that as the kids thought his career on leaving school was to be a bank robber which arose to him being called Robin Banks humorously at school he thought he’d use it for a while before it evolving into Banksy later in life. |
