Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by morrissey1 on Dec 3, 2007 21:52:31 GMT 1, God, something new from Banksy (on paper) shouldn't be toooo much to ask....Reward the people who are going to make the journey to the Ghetto this year with something that's not just rare because it's covered in gold ink, but because it's an image that hasn't already been plastered around for 14 months or more......I wouldn't sneeze at either the Gold Flags or the cheap paper Trolleys, but I would be slightly disappointed to get all the way there and find those two prints, at those prices, as my reward This got you negged..and rightly so..
wow, you are an arse! of all the stupid, and probably ill-minded things I said today, that was definitely the best point I made....there was so much other stuff you could have picked on....as you in your land like to say, bollocks!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by nickc on Dec 3, 2007 21:53:21 GMT 1, changed the price for the trolley on the SG site? from 2500 dollar to 3500 dollar?
Yep - on the opening night too. I would call them cheeky buggers but as everything is for charity then good luck to them.

Reward? Its an art shop that sells prints, I bet if you had the chance of getting one you would. If you want reward points, go to Sainsburys.

It's a little childish, but I love it.

Oh, ok....why not. I'm not talking about someone getting rewarded for hoping on a subway and going to a shop in the city...what i said was if you are going to have an art show, an annual art show, and hold it in Bethlehem, and some of your ultra-loyal fans get enough money together to actually go to your extraordinary location, then yes, I think it would be nice if you "rewarded" those people with something a little special......and I dont know what Ssainburys is, but I'm sure it's very fancy......oh, and by the looks of things, looks like they raised the price of one of two banksy prints already.....reward? f**k that! charge more...charge so much so only people who live in homes with security gates around them can afford your paper

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by gtf on Dec 3, 2007 22:03:15 GMT 1, BACK TO THE SUBJECT... anyone care to glorify the Paul Insect piece beyond the obvious message of two countries at loggerheads...or is it as bland as it first seems???
Thank you for posting this ;D at last something different on this thread.
The only other thing I can think of is the stags are black and white which ties in with the wall being known locally as the apartheid wall. Not much to add, hopefully someone else can be more insightful.

I just think it would be great just to be there and a perfect excuse also for some site seeing in a distant land but hopefully I'd be bringing back a rather different souvenir to most of the other tourists. Saying that, I'd probably find a ticket, get through customs and security, find the Ghetto and 'Ma Barker' will probalaly say ' youi ain't coming in'!!! That would be classic huh!
Yeah, I'm sure it would be a great experience ;D Would really be something to remember, and look back on in years to come and be proud to say I was there ;D
I expect it will get massive media coverage over the next few weeks from news channels from all over the world incredible PR for all involved

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by morrissey1 on Dec 3, 2007 22:16:56 GMT 1, this may sound like stupid question as I know very little about the people who live in Bethlehem, but do you think that any locals will be buying this art....do you think it will speak to them, so to speak?

Yes. Locals will be buying.
And, don't forget that TONS of people of the Christain faith(s) travel to the "holy land" at this time of year anyhow.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by lesbianwednesdays on Dec 3, 2007 22:35:29 GMT 1, i've mainly just been reading bits and bobs this evening but i must say i think there is something a little bit dis-tasteful about this years ghetto. if they put on a show for peole to go to to highlight the problems that exist in the west bank then great, but to play the game the way they know it exists is in poor tatse a little and i think it is somewhat exploitative.
anyone who ventures over there from anywhere further than an hour or so away, is going purely for the exclusive wares, not to go on a fact-finding mission, or to attempt to see life through the eyes of an everyday palestinian. sure, if it's presence alone encourages a few to go and open their minds to how much of a struggle these people have to go through on a daily and weekly basis, then that surely must be a good thing. to me, it looks like the commercial side of the operation is totally out of keeping with the so called message they are trying put across.
put on a show, let people come - for the right reasons - and raise some money for local causes. when you combine the two, in the same place i think you have a serious conflict of interests.
to add, the gold flag is a reject print, the trolley is on reject paper and that pigeon is just crap. no doubt the masses will be all over them like flies round shit but i would still have my reservations even if the art was class, the fact it is pretty lame makes it all the more tragic.
the print sales should be an aside, a by-product of the work on the wall. sadly i think it will end up that the wall will be a by-product of the print sale.
