Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by numusic on Dec 4, 2007 10:20:26 GMT 1, I've not got a lot of time for reading and posting this week but I agree with all the above. One quick point, there seems to be some whinging that POW might be making money off their online sales, yeah so what, look at what they're doing with their profits highlighting political situations and focusing the gaze of the media where it should be. Makes me even more pleased to have bought their expensive posters. Ditto, ditto that. I know that you never gonna please everyone. But it feels like people will only to stop moaning if the POW will sell them Banksy for 4X below market value so they can immediately flog it for that much profit...then these people will praise the POW as being the best.
I guess the boards are gonna attract a diverse range of people, materialistic cocks included. Personally, and I imagine it goes for a lot of people on here, I was brought to the art through the message. The message always came first when coming face to face with a Banksy work or event. Buying into it later with my wages was a way to show my support for the people that created it. Would love to go to bethlehem to show my support.. but don't have the means. Hopefully we can show em some love on here ;D

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by mammal2 on Dec 4, 2007 10:59:46 GMT 1, After feeling like this obsession of mine was getting stale, this brilliant master stroke has simply made me all warm inside again. Banksy knows how to cause a stir, and in all truth no one can do it like him. POW are simply brilliant for keeping this all under raps, and having the false economic balls to hand over their cash to a brilliant cause. It must have taken all of 15 mins for ben to sort those trolleys on card and bam, that cash will really make a difference to the people of Palestinian Community and who ever else they wish to benefit. It makes me all warm and yule tidey, like pissing yourself after to much scotch on a Christams eve night.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by shogun on Dec 4, 2007 11:49:49 GMT 1, This thread has really shown how many flippers, cynics, and selfish c**t there are on this forum. This is a major event in street art, the plight of an oppressed people will be raised. Instead I see messages of rage, jealously and downright cuntingness (my new word).
Some have even suggested it would be better to have held it in NY or London. If that was the case the 'angry mob' would turn around and say "why wasnt the ghetto in Palestine?".

here here fella... I've said that before on here and they all denied it. People want to fly to Bethlehem for a print... for gods sake, if they want the image, there are plenty for sale on Ebay.... goes to show they want the investment, not the art.

From my point of view, I've found that the people who post regularly on here love the art and everything about it and despise the flippers as much as anyone. Unfortunately, there are the occasional d*ck-heads who come on here to tap in to the knowledge that everyone else has. I think you will find that most people would want to go to Bethlehem for the experience of seeing the Ghetto in that location, not because of the chance to flip. The fact that a lot of people on here have already contributed to the thread about donating an extra 10% of anything they buy to local charities goes to show how impressed they are with POW this year. I for one am gutted that I can't get there to experience it but I don't begrudge anyone who does make it and is able to snap up something they like.

Not necessarily - I'm sure quite a few are going for the art, and well done to them.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by finsburyparkranger on Dec 4, 2007 12:10:49 GMT 1, Sadly I can't afford to go. One thing is for sure, this is the beginning of a Pilgrimage...... and one day I will go.... now...... to leave a small mark of solidarity on that wall myself.
Sometimes art can reflect life, sometimes it can change it.

Good call...let's try to get this forum to section off a bit of wall. Someone who's already there starts it, tells us where it is, and we'll add on when we visit leaving a date and initials. Reckon?
(I, for one, will not paint on it but attack it with a pickaxe until an 18yr old with an Uzi shoots me).
