Still amazes me they got him there fot the fall of the Berlin wall At times it annoys me how much rubbish gets plated on our radio stations, but to grow up in a country that has the Hoff on par with the Beatles

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Bram on Dec 4, 2007 12:49:48 GMT 1, Good point(s) nickc . My two pennies worth - I still think it is too early for people to realize or see the importance of the 07 SG. I think it may be a new era of art where the artist becomes directly involved in the issues rather than commentating on it from the outside. What we are seeing is the artist painting on the side of the actual problem and a few yard away "selling" his statements to the world. Its as if Banksy is spraying the "golf sale" on the actual tank in Tiniman Square.
Where next if this new involvement continues Kosovo, Iraq, Mozambique. I can almost see Bansky's rat on the back of the tanks as they depart from Baghdad.
Then again after their experience this year it could well be Blackpool `08 where the only thing you have to dodge are the fat slappers on the Hen parties.

Okay...want a challenge? 365 days to graff in three places around the world. Those are: Baghdad Green Zone, Rangoon, Pyongyang. Bonus points for getting the White House and Kabul in as well.
The point has to be made that the West Bank is a damn sight easier place to do something like this. Don't think anyone would survive more than a day in Gaza without being directly confronted by a criminal gang wanting to kidnap you. In terms of conflict zones, WB is considered the beginners course. And Bethlehem is a pretty liberal place as far as Palestine is concerned. You have a lot of old Palestinian Christians (mainly Catholic) there who live side by side with their Muslim brethren. Of course there's an underlying conflict but it ain't the Crusades. There's a common enemy in sight.
It's far from safe, but he couldn't have chosen a safer place for a direct action political art charity funk. Yes?

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by michaelscott on Dec 4, 2007 13:34:36 GMT 1, This thread has really shown how many flippers, cynics, and selfish c**ts there are on this forum. This is a major event in street art, the plight of an oppressed people will be raised. Instead I see messages of rage, jealously and downright c**tingness (my new word). Some have even suggested it would be better to have held it in NY or London. If that was the case the 'angry mob' would turn around and say "why wasnt the ghetto in Palestine?". c**tingness thats top shelf alright. +1 for that

Good point +1. Wouldn't you feel a bit weird walking round such a deprived area with that amount of cash, and spending it on art? The locals would think you were insane. Wouldn't you be a target once word gets out that europeans are coming over with handfuls of cash?

No one will have any money though!
The people buying prints get bourchers and will be invoiced at a later date and the originals are being auctioned off, by sealed bids and again I presume will be invoiced once the show ends!
