Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Imoy-San on Dec 4, 2007 14:24:16 GMT 1, Don't get me started on the Situationists...
King Mob, The Hacienda, Joy Division, Santacon, Space Hijackers, Suicide Club, Malcolm McLaren, the uprisings... The list goes on.
I've been looking at doing a documentary on them for a while. This development is quite interesting...

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by corblimeylimey on Dec 4, 2007 15:28:44 GMT 1, What a bunch of cynics there are on this board. How many other businesses do you know who would donate the entire proceeds of their most profitable venture of the year to charity? If they get publicity out of doing that then every single last bit of the publicity is extremely well deserved in my book. Not read the other posts but I often seem to agree with you Pez and can imagine whats being said. This is Banksys baby and he's doing it all for the right reasons. Raising awareness to the palestine cause and giving the profits to charity. What more do people want? He's a Master. Merry Xmas Banksy
Well said.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by finsburyparkranger on Dec 4, 2007 16:05:09 GMT 1, Wow made a tingle down my spine....
Here's a quote which i think needs to be remembered again, right here, right now.
"Whatever prestige the bourgeoisie may today be willing to grant to fragmentary or deliberately retrograde artistic tentatives, creation can now be nothing less than a synthesis aiming at the construction of entire atmospheres and styles of life. . . . A unitary urbanism — the synthesis we call for, incorporating arts and technologies — must be created in accordance with new values of life, values which we now need to distinguish and disseminate. . . . "
Gil J Wolman “La plate-forme d’Alba” originally appeared in Potlatch: Information Bulletin of the Lettrist International #27 (Paris, 2 November 1956).

Yeah I know, its heavy, sorry, If think its calling for a change. A time when art and science work together to achieve a moral success, not just a financial one. Thought it was relevant to the Bethlehem theme.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by johnerotten on Dec 4, 2007 17:49:44 GMT 1, yeah whatever one could have wondered about POW the last six months this event surely throws everything out the window.
i'm glad i racked up some credit card debt for a few cool prints i love and supported a company who would do this. i've already learned alot about the israeli palestinian conflict thanks to the ghetto being over there and am even more interested in learning more now.
this is something that is so much bigger than banksy, POW, or even ART. i think the conflict affects us all and blood is on all of our hands because our tax dollars fund wars.
Yep, logged off yesterday cos the posts just f**king depressed me, guaranteed the haters and cynics have done f**k all for anyone ever, "we all want prints, we all want money" types.. cynics seem to like to project their "self interest" philosophy as a means to not doing anything themselves.. Banksy and co just spent 6 months setting up a show in Palestine at Xmas as well as creating an amazing amount of street work, to highlight some important issues and raise awareness of our behaviour at Xmas. ..and people are still b**ching that they're in it for the money or PR.. ha ha.. It's an amazing piece of situationist art in itself. More reason than enough to go see it. Anyone going ? I've not got a lot of time for reading and posting this week but I agree with all the above. One quick point, there seems to be some whinging that POW might be making money off their online sales, yeah so what, look at what they're doing with their profits highlighting political situations and focusing the gaze of the media where it should be. Makes me even more pleased to have bought their expensive posters.
