What would we do without your brilliant posts? just looked at your last 20 posts, it seems you know nothing about framing, bought a Trolley print you don't even like, read the Daily Mail and spend the rest of the time being obtuse.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by greeneny on Dec 5, 2007 22:23:48 GMT 1, On second thought I'll let my original post stand ... although so much of this thread is upsetting because its so full of so many untruths ie Israel = Nazi Germany? Come on. And now the usual trashing of Zionists which is merely a code for Jews? Is that where this thread is going?

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by valeha on Dec 5, 2007 22:44:44 GMT 1, greeneny if you bother reading the posts I think only one person directly likened the situation in Palestine to Nazi Germany and was swiftly corrected by a lot of people, and you are clearly so blinkered you will not accept the fact that people have clearly stated that just because they are anti-Zionist, they are in no way anti-Semitic. I am one of those people. It's such a crap argument "if you criticise the Israeli government it's coz you are an anti-Semite" NO ITS NOT!

Speak for yourself mate, I know a little about places with conflicts, what exactly do you know?
I feel POW have excelled themselves this year and have proved a point, highlighting an issue that has been raging for years without most knowing the real cause.
If they had decided to open it in London, we would all be getting stressed, moaning about queuing, dripping about over priced prints, manking about if we were able to get there on time or not, If they are, or are not going to release prints by Banksy of Micallef as most are not interested in the rest etc etc.
But.....with this one, the majority can't make it so we are left to discuss the politics and the art from the show, with the snippets of info we are getting back, this IMO makes an interesting read.
Lets face it, regardless of what class we are from, (we can't all be upper-class and know everything that is going on in the world) discussion and debate is healthy.

spot on ABC. i knew nothing really about the situation and as a result of SG being out there have already learnt a hell of a lot, without even scratching the surface. london could have been fatal for the long term, been totally lost on people's self-importance and become the antethisis of what i'm sure their initial objective was.
i got the wrong end of the stick initially, i don't mind admitting that but i'm actually quite humbled by the effort and proud that on this forum at least, it has opened up a great deal of debate that would never in a million years have occurred this time last week, some good some bad.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by ABC on Dec 5, 2007 23:07:25 GMT 1, The best thing about this place is the varied background of posters, from all walks of life, some rich, some poor, you get the picture, but....one thing in common, the love of art. Yes there are some *&^*"%*"^%& (can't find a word for them) but in general there is always someone with a great deal of knowledge regardless of topic.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by bob1 on Dec 5, 2007 23:08:17 GMT 1, Perhaps its time for a bit of the history since it seems many here are terribly misinformed or have some other agenda. The area was under the control of the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire, and came under the control of the British under the League of Nations mandate. Much of the Middle East came under control of Great Britain and France, ranging from Lebanon to Iraq, to Jordan and what have you. As I recall, the Arabs were originally to have TransJordan and the Jews Nish Jordan, essentially all of the land their side of the Jordan. The Jews were the Palestinians. There never was a Palestinian people. The Jews entered and developed the country and large numbers of Arabs were enticed by the relative economic prosperity to migrate into the area. Insofar as indigenous Jews and Arabs were concerned, the Jews bought land from Arabs, who sold voluntarily at prices that far exceeded the value of the land but for the entry of the Jews. The Arabs were not "driven out." Several Arab armies attacked the fledgling state of Israel, which basically was viewed as vulnerable to destruction. The invading Arabs together with the indigenous Arabs attacked the Jews. The civilian Arabs were in many areas induced to withdraw with the promise that when the Jews were defeatred (as was expected), the Jewish owned land would be seized, the Jews goods also seized, and would be distributed to the victors as the Jews suffered the ignominy of defeat. The Arabs captured some territory, but the Jew's survived., and the Arabs who had followed the plan of conquest were outside the boundaries established at the cessation ofn hositilities. There were successively attacks on Israel by the Arab states. But these repeated attacks over the years were repulsed with the Jews capturing more territory (including the Golan Heights from which Israel was bombarded, and which coincidentally controls strategic water supplies vital to Israel's survival. The Arabs were not driven out but left as part of a plan to destroy Israel, and disgorge the Jews, seizing their territory. Parenthetically, the Jordanians desecrated Jewish holy sites and cemeteries in Jerusalem and the Arabs conducted other acts of vandalism, while the Arabs who had remained in what is now Israel, prospered and are involved in the political process in Israel. But some of them have given allegiance to the Arabs seeking Israel's destruction as when Israel was bombarded recently by Hizbullah.
The old "a land with no people for a people with no land myth" thats why there are according to UNRWA 4,186,711 Registered Palestinian Refugees as of June 2004 (1,226,21 of those live in refugee camps). I suppose in your world these people don't exist!
Also I Love the Israel was bombarded recently by Hezbullah quote. approx 1200 Lebanese civilians died %30 children under 13 (see UNICEF). The number of Lebanese civilians injured in the conflict were around 4,400 15% of which permanently disabled. Around 250-600 Hizbullah fighters died in the conflict.
On the Israeli side around 120 Israeli soldiers died with 450 soldiers wounded. 43 Israeli civilians died. 4,262 civilians were injured, 33 seriously wounded, 68 moderately, 1,388 lightly, and 2,773 were treated for shock and anxiety.
Its interesting to see that Hizbullah (armed with nothing in comparison to Israel's military might) killed substantially less Innocent civilians in proportion to soldiers than Israel and her supposedly strategic bombing campaign.
And before you go "they started it with the kidnap of soldiers" Israel still occupies part of Lebanon, still made incursions into Lebanese territory, has large numbers of Hizbullah members in its jail. Kidnaps and assassinates members illegally at will. Not to mention that ever so lovely incident on a Gaza beach only days before which saw a whole family killed by Israel.
O those pesky Arabs!
Keep blaming the victims Greeney.
For love
Bob

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by shogun on Dec 5, 2007 23:47:29 GMT 1, Its funny I mentioned Nazi Germany and all the 'friends of Israel' claimed I was supporting the Nazi's?
I have been called all sorts of names etc but when asked for proof to back up such allegations was told to 'grow up'. I even had the classic 'race' card pulled out.
What rubbish. As pointed out by other members anti-zionist does not mean anti-semite.
This situation is the current aparteid.

get over yourself you fuckin dick, you're the one that drew parallels and rightly told where to go. nothing compares to the holocaust. you called me a closet zionist and are still playing this friends of israel thing.
play the race card? you are a scum of the earth dirty racist cunt and i hope you rot. you're so racist you can't even see why you would offend someone, so deluded that you think you are the fucking victim. p*ick.
Its funny how people are defending Israel's actions. Is anyone defending Nazi Germany? What do you expect the Palestinians to do roll over and die? One mans terrorist... As for Israel - some of their factions were even considered terrorists by Britain (wiki Stern gang. They were even awarded medals years later). Who are these people on the forum? Justification of the wall? Street art is becoming less 'street' by the minute! Nice one NU for keeping it real. I think a lot of members are getting their facts from the likes of Fox News.
wow what a crass statement it seems that Israel is now being put on a par with nazi germany. Well the wall is all about making the largest concentration camp in the world...
without wanting to condone anything that is going on in the middle east, good or bad, that comment about nazi germany is f ucking disgusting. i hope to all eternity that neither yourself, your family or anyone you ever know or care about has to ever experience anything even close to what happened during the holocaust. sick c unt. So you were offended by the line: "Is anyone defending Nazi Germany". So your offended when I say the Israeli's are building a concentration camp for the Palestinians.... Its funny that, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu made a comparison of Israel's treatment of Palestinians to the treatment of Black South Africans under apartheid, so your going to call him a sick c**t aswell? As for the Stern gang (please wiki them) they even offered to work with the Nazi's and fight the British. But we only like to look back at the points in history that serve us best dont we. Closet Zionest by any chance?
closet racist by any chance shogun? How is this racist? I hate it when people say Israel and Jewish people are one. They are not. Infact many Jews are against the state of Israel. (http://www.nkusa.org/) Please point out anything I wrote that was racist? After WW2 did we stay in Germany and build houses where we wanted and kick the locals to the side. Or did we help build Germany up again?
