Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by valeha on Dec 20, 2007 19:07:17 GMT 1, "For allowing Santa's Ghetto to happen"!! whatever that means. Some people took the images the wrong way, maybe that was bound to happen. Maybe it wasn't explained to the locals that it was in fact supporting them. But let's face it you can't please all of the people all of the time. At least they didn't want to execute him like the teacher with the teddy.
goffy in your eyes are "they" all the same...surely the last week of tension on the forum would make people think a little more before posting potentially offensive comments.
back to the point, for me I can see how people can construe the donkey image the wrong way, though I agree with CBL's remark about his take on - that it was a reflection of the over zealous IDF.
Banksy should get out there again and paint something else!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by craigmccluskey on Dec 20, 2007 20:02:25 GMT 1, i was there the morning it was erased ,the paint was still wet ,our taxi driver asked some locals in the opposite shop at the three arches ,then descended to have a full blown argument with them ,was getting a bit heated so me and my bro sneaked back into the taxi, anyway the driver told us that they were offended as they took it that they were being compared to donkeys,he tried to explain to them the meaning behind it but they still took it as a slight on there caracters must say it was the only time of the weekend that we felt uneasy .

all i ment by that, is it takes more then banksy pow and laz to set something like this up. meaning that im sure someone in the community has helped with the planning and execution of santas gheto. not looking for another argument. we have had enough of those the few days.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by dmandpenfold on Dec 20, 2007 22:01:46 GMT 1, Just as different people in Palestine clearly took the images the wrong way it is obvious that forum members can easily take each others posts the wrong way, i would advocate reading a post carefully again if for some reason it offends you first time, in the haste to jump to conclusions many do not stop to contemplate what was said and what was actually meant, they miss the point and dive into a full blown argument that could have been easily avoided with a litte care.....it only takes a minute to re-read a post; similarly if you are posting, use the preview button first to ensure your post reads as you intended, it saves many a mis-understanding...

Dmand, if that was aimed at me, I understand, but that second part "at least they didn't want to execute him" was really not necessary - however many times I reread it! simple as that.
anyway NO MORE ARGUMENTS I've had enough!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by dmandpenfold on Dec 20, 2007 23:12:34 GMT 1, valeha, nothing was aimed at you or anyone in particular, i was making a general comment on people reacting before thinking both on this thread and many others.
No argument or offence meant, it was my way of trying to get people to appreciate that things aren't read as they imagine are written

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by BK83 on Dec 20, 2007 23:20:39 GMT 1, Interesting that this image has been completely misconstrued by the locals. I mean, it is afterall a picture the most universal of languages!! There is no text accompanyment so nothing to make it any more confusing and yet the whole message has been lost in translation. I find it even more odd considering the context of the environment -- it just amkes perfect sense ... or does it? I thought pictures could transcend the language barrier....
Anyone else interested in philanthropy....

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by dmandpenfold on Dec 20, 2007 23:54:16 GMT 1, quite right jaypaav, i am quite astounded that anyone could interpret this as a comment on Palestinians being donkeys, the message i thought was very clear and put so well without the need for further explanation...a picture being worth a thousand words, we have many more discussing the work than that..
the view you take on something is clearly directly related to your state of mind, maybe it's paranoia, maybe it's cultural too. Either way i am amazed by the loss of meaning, this image surely needs no explaining to anyone

Away from the glass? Not really no.
Could that be much of a problem?

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by goatislander on Dec 20, 2007 16:00:26 GMT 1, Ive never had that issue at all. Where do you keep your prints - in the bath?
It is common knowledge in the framing world that you never put the work of art/photograph against the glass because this will happen over a period of time. Depending on the climate where you live it could happen sooner rather than latter, but you never put the art against the glass. If you try to sell it later on and potential buyers knew you kept it framed they will ask you if it was kept against the glass and if you respond to them honestly they will be less likely to buy. If you want to display the deckled edge on your print in a frame you have to have it float-mounted to prevent it from touching the glass. Good luck.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by klyde on Dec 20, 2007 16:10:51 GMT 1, Thanks for your comments and concern.
Will probably get it framed properly in the new year.
For now, this is the best option for ยฃ24.99!
Will be float mounting my stop and search, even though it will fit in one of these frames just like the Bast.

nice work, i used one of these for a toxic mary, no need to go over the top, but i would recommend getting a good mount cut to fit it, the frame though is perfectly fine, the amount you spend on it should always be in context with the value of the print and its likely rise in value, which is a bit of guesswork of course
