I've had some up and down's and crazy benders like many members, just the fact you came through the other side and are able to put you're thoughts/experiences onto paper makes you a winner IMO. For those reasons i wouldn't give a stuff about what people think of it, and be happy you came through
I like it more knowing why you did it

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by thetruth55 on Dec 19, 2007 15:57:01 GMT 1, I'm thinking about getting Banksy's Wall and Piece for a x-mas gift. I personally have a hardcover from 2005, but I noticed a newer printed edition (paperback I think) that was printed in 2007 has more pages.
My question...is this newer version any different? does it include more pictures, etc.?
Any help would be appreciated.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Daniel Silk on Dec 20, 2007 9:45:12 GMT 1, Christmas is nearly here ;D (and I still aint done the shoppin)
What did you think of this years Ghetto then? ;D
To tell you the truth I was not that impressed with some of the pieces released I think my favourites were the Bast, Insect, and 3D prints ;D Dint get anything in the end coz the prices were just a bit too steep for me
I wonder what you think POW will do next year? do you think they have seen it as a success?

We will have to see EXACTLY how they handle the donation of the money before it is a success in my eyes. At the same time, I believe they saw it as a success from the first day with all the news cameras hovering about. Next year they could just easily do a charity fundraiser SG at home while playing off of the hype from this year.
I bought nothing as I didn't like a single print. If it wasn't for my trolleys arriving, I'd be a touch disappointed in the Banksy work on the streets and in the store at the Ghetto. If I HAD to choose 1 print, I'd take 3D's "Four Noble Truths".

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by craigf on Dec 20, 2007 9:56:58 GMT 1, I think the "success" can be measured in many ways. If it is based on the quality of the prints there are positives and negatives that have been debated a lot already on the forum. If it is about raising awareness I think it has had success, but people can quickly forget what the message was in only a few months. From a financial point of view we should not forget that POW and the artists have donated over ยฃ1m to charity, this is a very significant amount of money helping the needy directly and the increased awareness, at least from POW customers may mean that further donations of time, resource or hard cash may follow. Re the pricing some has been high, which maximises the donations to the charities and reduces the profits being made by flipping the prints. With some artists such as Banksy the line between setting an affordable price for his fans and one that prevents ppl profiting is a hard one. I think ยฃ525 for a signed print is the right amount to pitch them to the public or else too many people will not be able to afford them from the outset, but this still allows resellers to more than double their money over night.
Next year Burma? Definitely a country who's plight needs to be highlighted, but maybe even more difficult for them to operate from and us to get there. Let's hope this time next year things will be better there, but no doubt there will be a number of countries with less than an ideal social / economic situation

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Daniel Silk on Dec 20, 2007 10:04:17 GMT 1, I wonder if a New York or LA show would be more likely for next year now that they have got this one all done and dusted ;D They could do the online sales just like this years but by having it in a big city so they can get more people in the doors of the show ;D And maybe have a big Charity auction a couple of days before Christmas.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by becksaboo on Dec 20, 2007 10:06:16 GMT 1, I think a good marker of it's success will be how the money is spent. If they do manage to build a school and that it keeps on going for many years then it will def be a success.
But it was definately worth doing just in terms of raising awareness.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by becksaboo on Dec 20, 2007 10:16:24 GMT 1, Hmmm I wonder what they'll teach!
I don't thik it's likely to be in a normal place like London or LA again, but more likely to be places where they can raise awareness of a particular cause. For example they're building a similar West Bank wall in Baghdad so they could do one there.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by G-Man on Dec 20, 2007 10:42:15 GMT 1, I think its been a success considering the mass hysteria surrounding the art at the mo
If it'd been in London I think it would have been an unpleasant experience so they did the right thing
I loved the Aiko, Bast, Insect and Banksy prints
I also think that POW did the right thing with the pricing structure by pricing to the market value on many of the prints and therefore may have put off some of the flippers for next years releases?
Next year I think they'll have to do it online again to avoid a stressful ghetto shop

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by cannaebefannied on Dec 20, 2007 12:08:23 GMT 1, We were told at the show that they weren't going to do it this year & decided at the 11th hour to set it up, said they managed it all in 5 weeks which if that's right then they've done a great job IMO, maybe that's why trolley's to so long in arriving as they were busy orginising SG especially considering that the S&S print has started to arrive already. I think they all deserve a big pat on the bag (for once)

Yeah, it must have been a nightmare to get something like that organized in that time I would imagine they could not have picked any location in the world as tricky as they did.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by corblimeylimey on Dec 20, 2007 13:36:11 GMT 1, Most of the prints online did nothing for me and were IMHO overpriced... bar a few (3D and banksy mainly). However, going to the ghetto was an experience I will never forget and I am so glad I went. The icing on the cake is the nice memento in print form going on the wall in january ;D
Yes, well done for going, that's what it was all about, well, that and raising money for Palestinian causes. The art on the wall over there looks amazing, as does a fair amount of what's in the ghetto shop itself. As for on-line sales I only bought the Banksy but would have liked the Gee Vaucher too.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by manchestermike on Dec 20, 2007 13:40:39 GMT 1, I thought online it was a mixture, some good work, some bad work, some indifferent BUT the Ghetto itself over there is a resounding success no matter what. They've opened a lot of people's eyes to what truly is an awful situation and for that if nothing else must be applauded. The charity aspect too has been fantastic.
One thing is for sure too, signed Banksy prints are still too cheap
