Why on earth would you want to make it harder to get an artists work than it already is at the moment?
i am finding it refreshing that some pieces take a while to sell out - it gives a chance to think about the image and if you want it as opposed to the normal new print buy it now in case you miss it and worry later if you like it or not

In the same way the Banksy's stuff doesn't translate well to prints either. Which is why a lot more people are choosing to buy the street walls. lol.

They put a note on their homepage that said they'd refund money if people weren't 'smug' about having his first work. I think its a great thing ... people are going to be exposed to some GREAT artists and people are going to get the surprise of their lives when they see the TATE with lots of good stuff on the outside...
I think a lot of young art fans are going to really get a kick out of THEIR favourite art going 'OVER' their parents art...
Millions of people are going to find out who JR and BLU and FAILE and the other dudes are and they are going to ENJOY it... they are going to look at it and go WOW.
How is this is going to affect print and original sales and the 'market' for street art ?

Sorry I dont agree. Street art should be kept to the street. What Tate are doing is the exblotation of a genra that is an underground movement and one they feel they can cash in on becouse it has become poplular. If you look at the artists that are doing the tate, im not convinced that they have all come from the street scene in the first place. That they are willing to prostitute themselves to corporate sponsorship only dilutes the real meaning of street art and as such changes its genra.

As for Blu, I like some of the guys art, I just dont get it. I think that proberly says more about me than his art. But then again it has a much more mainland European feel that I think due to our American influence we sometimes miss in the UK.

I feel now that corporates and mainstream systems have become involved it potentially waters down the original feeling and the meaning and so becomes almost tame and controlled. The artist now has to put across a message that the artist may not have put across if he had a blank canvas to work from using his own vilition and a can of paint or a wheatpaste poster.

Well I guess this where we may have to agree to disagree, Im not convinced that bringing in corporates wont change the direction and meaning of the original mentality. Yes I guess it allows potentially millions to see the art, but im concerned its art that the corporates want to be seen with.
