MOMO studio print dropping today @ NOON (EST), by momo showpalace on Jun 23, 2016 16:42:31 GMT 1, Hi everyone, Letting you know about a small edition we’ve created in MOMO’s studio in New Orleans. You can contact us with any questions, ( momoshowpalace@gmail.com ) The art “drops” this Thursday the 23rd, at noon (NYC time) at momoshowpalace.bigcartel.com
Option 1 Hand Painted Gradient Silkscreen, Edition of 15
The gradient on these is hand painted as I would paint a canvas, with 3 colors silkscreened on top.
This is the first print from my New Orleans studio, & like New Orleans, it’s dimensions are little wonky. The image is not quite square, and paper is a non standard size.
The design is one that I painted in Mons, Belgium for The European Union’s “Capital of Culture” festival in 2015. Later that year I painted a variation on the 23 story mural in downtown Philadelphia. The black gestural bit is actually adapted from a mural I painted in Besancon, France in 2014 - so this design is really an “all-star”.
Option 1 Hand Painted Gradient Silkscreen Edition of 15 Acrylic on Arches 140lb watercolor paper 35cm x 50cm Embossed, numbered, and signed MOMO 2016
$220
A little about MOMO:
Artist MOMO was recently curated by Pedro Alonzo in Philadelphia to paint a 23 story mural in downtown Philadelphia, and a 230’ mural in the lobby of New England’s tallest building, the John Hancock Tower. At the same time, NY Art Fund has wrapped a 5 story building with his paintings in the heart of Manhattan.
This year he’s been asked to paint on the Goldman’s Wynwood Walls compound, as soon as he completes a large mural on the NFL Miami Dolphins Stadium. His first mural for The Wynwood Walls was in 2012, opposite Vhils and How & Nosm. He currently has a sprawling installation in the inaugural show of the MIMA museum in Belgium, “City Lights” with Maya Hayuk, Faile, and Swoon.
MOMO’s work is understood to be influential in nudging public taste and fellow artists towards abstract sensibilities, particularly in the areas of urban art and mural painting. He’s invented several processes to aid this pursuit, among them a practical geometry apparatus for spray cans, a measured halftone roller, a system for postering the ubiquitous sidewalk-sheds in NYC, and a paint dispensing unit that tagged his name with an 8 mile long line across the width of Manhattan.
He began with DIY outdoor painting in the late 90’s, spending his time in Spain and Jamaica before settling in Brooklyn. Early experimental works were made with Eltono in five countries, and later mural projects with Fame Festival’s Angelo Milano in 5 countries.
