Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by carlito on Jul 14, 2007 10:21:02 GMT 1, I never thought you had negged me, i dont think you are so childish I do appreciate what you are saying with buy what you can afford to lose, but everyone is thinking about this the wrong way. Everyone is sayin 'ooooohh when the banksy bubble bursts some people are going to get shafted'. I do not think that any artist within this scene will have their prices go down over any 6 month period. yes you get dips, like adam neates went to Β£2500, then back down to Β£1700, now hovering around Β£2100, but you just watch them piss past the Β£3000 mark by august, then past Β£4500 by christmas and Β£5000 next year at this time, maybe more. Images are definative, people either like them or dont like them, or maybe love them or maybe hate them. But if you like an image now, the chances are you will like it in 20 years time. Art has scenes and trends like anything, but this art scene is comperable to the brit pop scene of the mid 90's, you got your heavyweights like oasis and blur who had long careers (banksy and micallef) you had your pretender to the throne pulp (adam neate) you had the old masters coming back on the scene the stone roses (blek, shephard) then you had loads of smaller bands coming through (gene, sleeper, cast, northern uproar, menswear, shed seven) who releaesed the odd good song, but on the whole were not as good as the bigger bands (bast, mantis, blu, insect) but then just as the scene was getting a bit samey the verve came along (beejoir) and created a huge buzz again. whenever there is a scene there are a glut of things from that scene. look at the number of new prints released, i mean seriously, how many f**king pictures can you get on your walls? I bet hundreds of people on these forums have scores of prints under their beds that will never get on the walls (i am guilty of that!) My point is that the big boys of this scene are here to stay (banksy, micallef, adam neate) I just cannot see their prices going down, Some of the artist will fade away, in a few years time you will look at your print collection and think 'i cannot believe i bought that' and you will laugh at yourself, but i just do not see Beejoir in that catagory, I see him being a genuine top 5 artist and a genuine contender for the throne. I dont think you can deny that there is no other artist outside of the big 3 who could release a print and have it selling for almost 1000% more within a week of it going on sale? I think that is pretty unique. Beejoir has proved this week to everyone that he commands a higher price than Dface and mantis and is the one artist from the chasing pack who is going straight into the big leagues LMAO.. this is just so so wrong.. but I'd have to write 4 pages of verbal to cover just how wrong it is. This is a public forum..and people should hear other points of view. Beej being a member here makes that a tad difficult no ?.. but really.. this is close to fantasy wishfullfillment. You just spanked 10k on someone who's made 3 ok prints and one produced good adbusters image... (look at stencil revolution, there's a thousand good images).. but spending 10k and then ranting on about how Beej is the next big thing, etc etc, smacks of desperation on your part. I sincerly hope you like this work in 20 years time, cos to be honest, the posters I had 20 years ago are s**t . 1000+ quid for SBFO is laughable.. IMO sorry Chris * Edit.. feel free to jump in this discussion people. Needs a bit of balanced discussion maybe. Beej, we need an interview what are your thoughts on it ? ** ok, thought about it a bit more. And f**k it.. anyone who spends 10k on this type of work and imagery, then Respect + ! *** But maybe a bit less hype would help us all, including Beej. Peace
Nu I'm no where near as 'art savvy' as a number of u guys on here, did u all do fine art course or something? Any way I'm not getting into the bigger argument just wanted to ask u a couple of questions....
if Verbal is soooo wrong with his last post could u quickly surmise the 4 pages of why it is?
And regarding the '3 okay prints' statement in there,,,,, u really think this? As 3 prints go by one artist i can't think of one who's created 3 in the last what 9 months that come near these....I'm fascinated by the negative views on SBFO as they seem to always come from an 'ad'/design angle not sure why this?
oh well what do i know? (only what i like )
peace out
(i totally agree with the little less hype - but unfortunately boards like this, create and keep the ball rolling...)

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by romanywg on Jul 14, 2007 10:34:26 GMT 1, I think he may be including variations. Turin Scam had the stencilled version and also the Printers Proofs. LV had the signed, unsigned, and canvas.

personally I think the craziest prices have been seen around Greed - which was a freebie / gift that ppl shouldn't even be selling dammit

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by stuey09 on Jul 14, 2007 14:38:56 GMT 1, I just read Nu's comments and as usual he has offered an honest perspective on a piece of art. I don't necessarily agree with all of his comments, but certainly appreciate a balanced argument. Rather than one way traffic praising SBFO.
I've bought TS and LV, and think that both pieces are really clever and well worked, so I respect Beejoir as a talented artist. However, I was indifferent to SBFO, so didn't go for it. Therefore I feel that the praise of this work is great on one hand, because Chris does seem a genuinely nice bloke with talent, but on the other hand the praise seems a little over the top for something that IMHO is just 'okay'
Just my opinion

Your right Carlito. Furthermore, it would be wrong if a forum like this was just one way traffic. So long as criticism (or praise) is genuine and not delivered in a crass manner, it should be encouraged.

Again, i just dont get your argument, what does it matter if he has only done 3 prints, Adam Neates originals were Β£10,000 + vat each before he had even released a print, you cannot gage an artists worth by the number of prints they have released. Are originals like the album chart and prints like the singles chart?
I dont understand why im stupid for spending 10K on chris' work, is it because it might go down in value? I dont care mate, honestly. Im not a child or a drooling moron, infact you might actually consider the factt hat those purchases were not at all impulsive and that i gave all of them a great deal of thought and consideration. i walked into those purchases with my eyes wide open
As for me saying he is the next big thing, i happen to have an unshakable belief that is true, there is not a hint of desperation as i would never sell any of the work anyway, regardless of the price. If you think he has made 3 ok prints then that is your opinion, and not only are you entitled to it, but i respect it too. I just happen to disagree, i happen to think that he has made 3 classic 'hall of fame' images which will stand the test of time.
I bet if you sent me a list of your art collection there would be things you have that i would be quite jealous of, but there would probably be a few purchases that i wouldnt have made, the same with everyone else on this board. but art is a personal choice and my choice was to spend my money on beejoir, Im sure you would have spent it differently, but if we all liked the same stuff the world would be a bit boring wouldnt it
oh and i havent spent Β£1000 on the SBFO and carlito was right about all of the editions that i have.

Yeah I know, and listen, apology's, I was a bit harsh this morning, it WAS 7am. Just thought it needed an oppossing view cos you went really over the top IMO
But you've got some great pieces by a promising artist ! so onwards and uopwards.

If you think he has made 3 ok prints then that is your opinion, and not only are you entitled to it, but i respect it too. I just happen to disagree, i happen to think that he has made 3 classic 'hall of fame' images which will stand the test of time. Fair enough, i really hope he does go on to get the respect he deserves, just a worried about the "Baldwin" effect, I'm so tired of hearing about the next big thing is allI bet if you sent me a list of your art collection there would be things you have that i would be quite jealous of, but there would probably be a few purchases that i wouldnt have made, the same with everyone else on this board. but art is a personal choice and my choice was to spend my money on beejoir, Im sure you would have spent it differently, but if we all liked the same stuff the world would be a bit boring wouldnt it I honestly like Beej's work, i'm a fanoh and i havent spent Β£1000 on the SBFO and carlito was right about all of the editions that i have. Yeah I know, and listen, apology's, I was a bit harsh this morning, it WAS 7am. Just thought it needed an oppossing view cos you went really over the top IMOBut you've got some great pieces by a promising artist ! so onwards and uopwards. Cheers Nu

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by corblimeylimey on Jul 14, 2007 17:28:51 GMT 1, I just read Nu's comments and as usual he has offered an honest perspective on a piece of art. Therefore I feel that the praise of this work is great on one hand, because Chris does seem a genuinely nice bloke with talent, but on the other hand the praise seems a little over the top for something that IMHO is just 'okay' Just my opinion
Kinda with you stuey, except I only have Turin Scam, and I think all 3 are great pieces of art.
Having said that, I only bought Turin Scam as that's the only one I was going to be happy with at home on the wall.
I'm pretty sure Beejoir is going places and looking forward to what's next on the street and on paper.

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by tomhills1 on Jul 14, 2007 18:46:24 GMT 1, just a couple of comments, though not much to add. jjoschi, i don't think i have ever disagreed with anything you've said, if i have it's usually so well articulated that i can totally see your point. verbalkint, you too, though sometimes we have disagreed but as you so rightly point out in this thread, your opinions are your own and you are answerable to yourself and yourself only. nu, equally respect for you, very much the realist of the forum but usually as subtle as a kick in the bollox. love it.
on the subject of beejoir briefly, i really respect him as an artist and think his work is very well executed. it's not for me though, much as i think it serves it's purpose of making a statement as well if not better than most of the current crop of so called 'street artists'. i just wouldn't want it on my wall. to refer to jjoschi's point of residual value, then i have to agree. good luck to those that can afford it, to those that can't, don't be tempted. beej's work is very apropos, in ten years time will it still have as much impact, if any? the relevance of his work is a massive factor and without that it stands for nothing. just my thoughts.
also verbalkint made a great point to nu about us all not liking the same things and that has to be a healthy situation, shows we aren't the stamp collectors our better halves would have us believe. something else verbal wrote was the britpop analogy, it's only retrospect that allows us to determine who were the winners and losers from that race, at the time we all thought suede were gods, the manics were diverse and oasis were the biggest thing since the beatles. now of course we all know better, in time perhaps we will be able to pick the bones out of this 'flash in the pan' and see with true clarity who the real winners are.
to quote an old betting term, only spend what you can afford to lose, couple that with buying what you like and you should never go too far wrong. trying to second-guess what tomorrow will bring is very naive but could also be very fruitful if you guess right. depends what your motives are i suppose.

Oh I don't know... the first letter of every sentence should be capitalized, which he failed to do. I would deduct 10 points.

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by tomhills1 on Jul 14, 2007 20:29:44 GMT 1, seriously, stand by what i said, this thread has some major contributions by people who i believe are a credit to the forum, names i've already mentioned.
sadly, 90% of what comes up on here i find trivial at best but that's my problem, i'm not saying it shouldn't get posted, just that it's 'so, whatever'.
if it takes all the threads of what if, why, when and maybe to get a sensible discussion then so be it.
reminds me of a time my mate got knocked out in a pub in bermondsey. he got talking to a millwall fan when he said "i went to the den once to watch a fight. and a game of football broke out". guess the best things inlife start organically is what i'm saying. badly.

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by verbalkint on Jul 14, 2007 21:00:21 GMT 1, hi nu
I personally would put beejoir way above swoon, bast and d face, both in my own personal tastes and in popularity. I just cannot see any of those artists creating a buzz on the scale of SBFO and i certainly cannot see any of their prints selling for over 1000% of its asking price within a week of it selling out, and that goes for faile too. Plus faile are a great comparison, as they regularly release prints in way smaller editions than 40, and they never go for 10 times their asking price, even months after they are released. I realise your point that you can judge him better when he has a bigger body of work, but all i can do is compare chris' first 3 prints to everyone elses first 3. chris wins hands down (along with adam neate)

Faile and swoon are founding fathers of the genre. Comparing beejoir too them so early in his career is a bloody big ask. Also lets not forget that that the price isn't the only way to judge art.... but I must admit I personally like beejoirs work more too.

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by spidey on Jul 14, 2007 21:16:10 GMT 1, This forum on its own, has nearly 4,000 memebers - all of whom will be aware of Beejoir and Souled Out Studios and are active collectors / sellers of art.
So its no suprise when a print Like SBFO in an edition of 40 commands such a high price - its simple supply and demand. Everyone wants a Beejoir / jumping on bandwagon - and its only going to get harder to get one.

As I've said, I'm a fan of Beejoir but overstating him and his work is not necessarily a clever move. Let the guy develop a body of work and his talent will no doubt be sufficient to ensure his place alongside DFace, etc.

You will notice that i have never come on here and said 'beejoir is the next ...........' whatever, i specificly have not done that because it is just so pointless. It is natural to compare artists with artists, but my comment about swoon, bast and faile were made because someone put in a post that they were leagues above, and someone else has said that 'swoon and faile are the founding fathers'. Well sonic youth were the founding fathers of grunge, were they bigger than nirvana? no. Just because someone is instrumental in creating a scene does not mean they are automaticly bigger or better than newer artists. Like i said in my post, and i will say it again, all i can do is compare Beejoirs first 3 prints with everyone elses first 3 prints and for me, its beejoir and adam neate all the way. They are the only 2 artists who i would be confident of buying their prints without seeing them first because they have not done anything that i dont like (yet) Also, i did not compare beejoir to bast, faile, swoon and d face, someone else did and i retorted their post, so i never compared HIM to anyone, but i can compare HIS WORK with other artists work on a personal taste basis. Like i said, i am not the one doing the comparing, but if someone else uses a comparisson to make a point then i have to use that comarisson to retort it dont i?
