Robert Del Naja π¬π§ 3D β’ Street Artist β’ Massive Attack , by eskay on May 17, 2013 14:25:35 GMT 1, Robert Del Naja aka 3D: Fire Sale May 24th 2013 β June 20th 2013 Private View 23rd May, 6pm β 9pm Lazarides Gallery, 11 Rathbone Place, London
In May 2013 Lazarides is pleased to welcome back artist and musician Robert Del Naja aka 3D. Fire Sale will be a unique retrospective of painting and design that have helped define Massive Attack over the past 20 years, covering the pages of sketchbooks to 12 million record sleeves.
Previously unseen pieces created for Massive Attack's latest album Heligoland (2010) will be exhibited alongside archival works painted and screen printed for the first time from 1991's Blue Lines and 1994's Protection.
Robert's ongoing collaboration with UVA with whom he designed Massive Attack's hugely influential live shows are represented in digital mirror pieces. Fire Sale will be the first and only time these pieces will be collected in one place: images have been hand-finished and are total one-offs - unseen images alongside those more familiar - enhanced and redacted especially for this show.
Under the tag 3D, Robert was a central figure in the Bristolian graffiti movement that would eventually spawn Banksy. Like his music, 3D's art is modern and grounded, challenging and beautiful, industrial and ethnic. A vocal critic of the Iraq war, the conscious elements of the pieces are a reminder that Massive Attack have always been outspoken on social and international issues. He has collaborated with many diverse organisations including The Hoping Foundation, Reprieve, Occupy and London's Southbank Centre (where he co-curated on the 2008 Meltdown Festival). Robert is currently working on a major commission for Manchester International Festival with filmmaker Adam Curtis and a book of his artworks β '3D / The Art Of Massive Attack' is published later this year.

worth a trip just for that.
these we featured on a yentob thing - covering James Turrell (that crater is on my list ...).
As for the light at brixton for the show - well that was blinding. (funny to see 'all those' cameraphones just melt under the baselines and light - funny as ferk).
(the other thread does'nt cover the press release - this one looks more detailed btw).

I know it's a long shot but if anyone has a +1 once Letiss has been sorted out then I's be very grateful.

And bound to be missed by most here.

Robert Del Naja π¬π§ 3D β’ Street Artist β’ Massive Attack , by mouser on May 23, 2013 17:23:24 GMT 1, For the Artist, size and type of work, from such a varied and well regarded back catalogue of work, I'd say some of the pieces are an absolute steal, but then again, i love massive attack so several of the pieces have a much stronger resonance than simply the image, but the music associated.
Some are less to my liking, but much stronger examples of 3D's more recent work and again, very strong and undeniable 3D.
Each to their own, but for what these pieces are I think they are well priced.

Robert Del Naja π¬π§ 3D β’ Street Artist β’ Massive Attack , by Feral Things on May 23, 2013 17:55:08 GMT 1, I'm really excited to see this show in the flesh. 3D's one of the most influential artists around and it's been a long, long time since his last exhibition. These things can be a bit of an anti-climax so I'm really glad that the work looks so strong from the catalogue.
Sadly, like everyone else, I couldn't get a +1 so I won't get to hear Daddy G on the decks but I am grateful that I got a fleeting glimpse when the door was open earlier. I'm looking forward to heading back another day and seeing the work properly.
I think the prices are pretty good; there's about a dozen pieces that I'd be all over if I had Β£3k to be spending on art. Given how established and influential he's been over the years I would guess a fair chunk has already sold.
